Summary
JOB DESCRIPTION
JOB TITLE: Pre-School Assistant
RESPONSIBLE TO: Pre-School Team Leader
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
► To help maintain the safety, security, physical and emotional welfare of the children in the Pre-School, bringing to the attention of the Pre-School Leader anything about a child which gives cause for concern.
► To administer First Aid as appropriate, keeping an accurate record of any accidents.
► To participate in observations, recordkeeping, planning and implement plans.
► Have the ability to extend children’s learning during play.
► To provide safe, creative and appropriate play activities and experiences and preparation of activities.
► To take responsibility for your keyperson children. This includes – responding to their parents’ queries/concerns and ensuring that their records are maintained in accordance with the Early Years Foundation Stage requirements.
► To attend staff meetings, training, appraisals and supervision sessions when requested.
► To bring to the attention of the Pre-School Leader any child’s failure to thrive.
► To bring to the attention of the Pre-School Leader any equipment that may be dangerous.
► To assist others with setting up and clearing away activities and equipment and preparation of snack.
► To be aware of hygiene standards and ensure that they are met in line with the Pre-School policy.
► To be responsible when posting on Social Media.
► To read and adhere to all Pre-School policies and procedures.
► To ensure that all information concerning children and their families is kept confidential at all times.
► To work as part of a team, supporting each other to ensure a good working atmosphere.
► To monitor supplies and inform the Pre-School Leader or Administrator of any shortfall.
► To maintain an up to date knowledge of current childcare issues, legislation and practices.
► To support, supervise and assist all students in the Pre-School, giving practical help and advice
with assessments.
► Close liaison with parents, carers, pre-school staff and other professionals involved with or visiting the pre-school.
► To encourage parental involvement and support.
► To carry out all responsibilities and activities within an equal opportunities framework.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
Applicants will be required to meet/ demonstrate the following specifications:
Essential for the post
• An understanding of good pre-school practice and child development.
• Previous experience of working in early years preferable a pre-school.
• A friendly, positive, flexible attitude, together with a willingness to learn.
• To work as part of a team and support colleagues.
• Suitable qualification in Early Years Childcare and Education (preferable level 3)
• Ability to meet children’s individual needs.
• A sound knowledge of the Early Years Foundation Stage
• An understanding of good practice with regards to safeguarding children.
• An understanding of good practice with regards to Equality, British values and Cultural Capital
• Ability to communicate at all levels and to be upfront and open.
• To bring to the attention to the pre-school leader any issues, worries or concerns within the pre-school.
• To work positively with all team members, sorting out issues as they arise, via the proper channels as necessary, to ensure a good working atmosphere.
• A commitment to equal opportunities.
• Experience and knowledge of key person practice, observations, assessment and planning.
• Ability to use judgement and common sense.
• Ability to provide safe, creative and stimulating play activities and experiences.
• Ability to use your own initiative
• Be prepared to be outside in all weathers
• Good physical and mental health
• To be flexible and accommodating to work when needed and at short notice.
