The Surgery Care Group at York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust have a fantastic opportunity to join our Senior Leadership Team as Associate Chief Nurse.
You will work alongside the Care Group Director, Associate Chief Allied Health Professional and Associate Chief Operating Officer as part of the multi-disciplinary leadership team. The Care Group comprises Theatres, Anaesthesia & Critical Care, General Surgery & Urology, Head & Neck and Plastics and Trauma & Orthopaedics making it a varied and exciting role.
Alongside the Senior Leadership Team, you will ensure that services are safe, effective, timely and are designed and delivered with patients at the centre. The Associate Chief Nurse is a member of the Trust’s senior nursing team and works closely with the Deputy Chief Nurse and Chief Nurse and will be required to deputise for these individuals.
The ideal candidate will work excellently in various teams, demonstrate the upmost care and professionalism and bring energy and enthusiasm. We seek a nurse leader who can lead large teams and deliver innovation and quality improvement. The role will involve being part of the manager on call rota and will require working across all sites (candidates can choose either Scarborough or York as their base).

Providing professional leadership for all nurses within the Care Group and Trust-wide in support of the strategic nursing agenda working directly with the Chief Nurse and the wider senior nursing team to ensure the nursing resource is utilised efficiently and effectively to meet the clinical and non-clinical priorities within allocated budgets.
The development and delivery of high quality clinical and professional standards and assuring the Trust Board that they are being delivered within their Care Groups. The development of leadership and management capacity within nursing for their designated areas. This will be in line with agreed objectives, targets, quality standards, resource controls and constraints, and will contribute to delivering the operational strategy for each Care Group and for the Trust as a whole.
Working with a high level of autonomy, collaborating with corporate nursing and the wider Multidisciplinary Team, creating workable solutions, providing highly expert advice and acting as a representative for the Trust on external advisory groups/bodies as required. Managing the nursing workforce and through them delivery of patient care, the patient environment, infection prevention and control, patient experience, and the patient and public involvement (PPI) agendas. Deputising for Care Group Director, Associate Chief AHP and Associate Chief Operating Officer, which may involve directly line managing other disciplines.
