The Role

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Team Leader to join our Smokefree team. The Smokefree Team are responsible for reducing smoking prevalence within North Somerset by supporting smokers to stop smoking as well as training and supporting other providers to support their service users and/or patients to stop smoking as well as raising awareness around the harms associated with smoking, promoting the benefits of stopping and providing advice and guidance on the best ways to stop.

In this role, you will; ensure effective line management of a team of Stop Smoking Advisors ensuring delivery of effective, evidence-based interventions to support service users undergoing a smoking cessation attempt.

The post-holder will work with the Tobacco Control and NHS Health checks Manager on design and implementation of behavioural and pharmacological interventions using knowledge and expertise gained from relevant training and clinical experience around smoking cessation and behaviour change.

The post holder will work autonomously ensuring workplans, team plans and programmes are developed for themselves and the team they lead.

They will be responsible for training and supervision of their team and training delivery to external partner organisations.

Key Responsibilities:

To deliver a management and leadership role in planning, development, implementation and coordination of the Stop Smoking Team
Ensure the team maintains high-quality performance and meets key performance indicators.
Ensure the team of stop smoking advisors deliver interventions and levels of service quality that align with organisational expectations, meeting the needs and expectations of our service users.
Contribute to the development of interventions, protocols, guidelines, care pathways and resources for interventions as necessary and co-ordinate the dissemination and delivery of interventions to front-line staff.
Design and deliver 2-day Level 2 advisor training, update training, Very Brief Advice training and other training to in-house and third-party advisors.
Develop and maintain effective multi-disciplinary partnerships across North Somerset and the wider BNSSG footprint to promote professional and collaborative working practices in smoking cessation and tobacco control, supporting the creation of robust referral pathways into the service.
To raise awareness of national and local no-smoking campaigns and of the stop smoking service with health professionals and the general public through information sessions and awareness raising events, marketing, media publicity and the website.
To provide floating caseload support co-ordinating cover and providing cover for advisor’s service user caseloads where team capacity necessitates.
Maintain accurate and confidential client records using service data recording
Any other responsibilities and activities commensurate with the grade and delivery of the service.

About You

We are looking for an individual who is passionate about leading a successful team to support residents to improve their health, and who possesses the following skills and experience:

Essential Criteria:

Degree qualification or higher (ie Post-graduate diploma or Masters) in a relevant subject such as psychology, nursing, community development, health promotion, public health
Further specialist training in smoking cessation activity or extensive practical experience of delivering health improvement/smoking cessation behaviour change groups and interventions.
Evidence of continuing professional development.
Knowledge of national guidance and policy in relation to smoking cessation, health intervention and understanding of the wider public health context and health inequalities.
Experience of managing/training/mentoring/supporting staff.
Understanding of how to design and assess successful training.
Ability to develop and co-ordinate content to publicise Smokefree North Somerset.
Ability to work with a wide range of partners and stakeholder organisations.
Ability to analyse designated areas of work and make decisions to change and improve them.
Skills in prioritising, planning and implementing a programme of work without close supervision to meet agreed deadlines.
Ability to work as a team member, sharing ideas and expertise with colleagues.
Able to be proactive, think creatively, introduce innovative ideas and produce work of the highest quality.
Ability to work with people from a range of backgrounds and cultures.
To be able to exercise tact and diplomacy.
Good listening skills
Knowledge and understanding of safeguarding protocols and the threshold levels for service user groups.
Knowledge and understanding of information governance procedures and policies.
