About the Role:
We are looking for an assistant engineer or engineer to join our Bridges and Structures team. As an Engineer or Assistant Engineer within the bridges and structures team you will assist the Bridge Manager in providing an effective and efficient Bridges / Structures service in support of both the Network Strategy and the Highways Operations Groups.
You will:
Carry out designs to current standards
Produce AutoCAD drawings for projects
Lead on the design consultation, supervision and measurement of project/ schemes and processing of invoices
Complete highways safety audits
The post holder will also produce Highway Asset maintenance schemes and ensure the effective ordering and implementation of works. There will be an element of travel across the county.

The Team:
The Bridges Team sits within the Highway Operations team, we are responsible for delivering the County Council’s Highway Structures Asset Management service. We design, construct, and maintain the council’s highway structures, and are responsible for the identification of schemes and their design to completion, on time and budget. We provide strategic professional guidance to colleagues in other teams dealing with highway structures.
What you will bring
An excellent candidate eligible to join us on Grade JK would have either HNC Civil Engineering or equivalent and the experience to deliver some (not all) of the work aspects described above.
However, we would seriously consider suitable applicants who have transferable skills but don’t yet possess exactly the right qualifications or experience. You would need the relevant qualifications and ambition which would permit entry to HNC Civil Engineering or on day release to begin your technical career journey with us.
There may be an opportunity for the right candidate to join a degree apprenticeship programme. Excellent communication and problem-solving skills are necessary and the desire to work in a team environment where cooperation and negotiation is required is essential.
