Job Title: Nursery Specialist 1:1 Teaching Assistant
Location: Liverpool - L8
Hours: Full time
We are seeking a compassionate, patient, and dedicated Nursery Specialist 1:1 Teaching Assistant to work closely with pupils who are non-verbal and require personalised support. This is a rewarding role for someone committed to inclusive practice and supporting young children with complex needs to access learning, communication, and daily routines.
You will work under the direction of the class teacher and the SENCO to provide tailored support that enables pupils to feel safe, engaged, and supported within the nursery environment.
Key Responsibilities-
Provide 1:1 support for pupils who are non-verbal, supporting communication through appropriate methods (e.g. visual aids, PECS, Makaton, AAC).

Support pupils with personal care, including toileting and hygiene.

Assist pupils in navigating the classroom environment, routines, and transitions throughout the day.

Support access to the Early Years curriculum, adapting activities to meet individual needs.

Promote pupils’ social, emotional, and communication development.

Work collaboratively with teachers, SEN staff, therapists, and parents/carers.

Maintain accurate records and contribute to reviews and support plans.

Ensure a safe, nurturing, and inclusive learning environment at all times.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have-
Experience working with young children with SEND, particularly non-verbal pupils (nursery or early years experience desirable).

Confidence and sensitivity when providing personal care.

A calm, patient, and empathetic approach.

An understanding of child development and inclusive practice.

Strong communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team.

A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
Desirable (but not essential)-
Training or experience in Makaton, PECS, or AAC.

Experience supporting pupils with autism or complex needs.

Relevant childcare or teaching assistant qualifications.
