National Highways has an exciting opportunity within the South West region for a Technology Engineer. Working alongside specialists, driving safety and supporting customer service, you will be helping to improve National Highways' technology infrastructure.
As an Engineer you will be responsible for assisting with scheme delivery, using your technical and stakeholder skills to help shape and coordinate the identification of asset needs and development of roadside technology schemes in accordance with defined asset policies and standards.
This position will be based in Bristol or Exeter with a balance of remote and office-based work.
Please note that you will be required to drive as part of your role, and you will need to have no more than 3 points to be considered for this position and during employment.
- Assisting with the identification and collation of asset data to develop early technical solutions, both in-house and with the supply chain, in accordance with our Scheme Delivery Framework methodologies and prioritisation criteria.
- Analysing asset and survey data, assisting with the production of design and construction documentation to enable the development of technology improvement and renewal schemes.
- Supporting the improvement and/or renewal of technology assets; identifying requirements and developing scope of works, preparing briefs and assisting in managing the delivery of associated survey, design and construction activities.
- Providing technical support and assurance for the wider business.
- Working closely with Project Managers and Senior Engineers to assist with technical queries, the approval of design changes, managing contractors and ensuring health and safety compliance.
About you.
- Degree or HND in relevant electrical / electronic or IT discipline, or equivalent qualifications to National Vocational Qualifications level three or above, with experience as a technician, managing or maintaining and repairing technology assets.
- Detailed technical knowledge of roadside technologies used on the Strategic Road Network or comparable local authority infrastructure.
- Broad understanding of supply chain, project/programme management in a highway environment, plus knowledge and application of relevant highways standards (specifically DMRB and MCHW).
- Good stakeholder engagement skills with proven ability to work collaboratively across teams and supply chain.
- Experience in relevant construction and delivery processes and working knowledge of CDM 2015.

External candidates will be offered a starting salary at the lower end of the pay scale although, subject to experience, this may be negotiable. Current employees will be appointed in accordance with our established pay policy.
