We are looking to recruit a highly motivated, innovative and enthusiasticStaff Nurse to join our Healthcare Service at Oasis Restore Secure School (ORSS).

The Staff Nurse role is responsible for the delivery of compassionate nursing care and health promotion services, providing a healthy child programme to 12-18-year-olds at the Oasis Restore Secure School. Nurses work closely with the children who use our services, their families, friends, and carers and play an important contribution in how children experience our services.

Staff nurses work as part of a team and you will contribute to the success of the team by drawing support from more experienced nurses and other health professionals but also by supervising other staff and student nurses to ensure they are working to the standards which the children using our services deserve.

ORSS is the first Secure School in the UK and will hold 12-18 year old children. All staff work in line with ‘Child First’ principles to create a developmentally appropriate and trauma informed healthcare service. By joining our team, you will have the opportunity to be involved in developing a new service that will have a real impact on promoting health and well-being for this vulnerable population and impact on their future life orientation.

You will support the School Nurses in providing a comprehensive school nursing service and work as part of an integrated healthcare service which includes primary care, mental health, substance misuse and a sexual behaviour service. Staff nurses are expected to be kind and responsive but professional and informative and contribute to the quality of the services we provide by:
• keeping the children who use our services as safe as possible through the use of sound clinical skills and effective risk assessments
• ensuring the best possible clinical outcomes by using up-to-date skills and adhering to evidence-based policies and procedures
• ensuring the children using our services have a good experience by respecting, empowering and working in partnership with people throughout the care planning process

The postholder is expected to deliver trauma-informed, culturally sensitive care, considering the developmental needs of the children, and ensuring consideration of the impact of their experiences on their current strengths, needs and difficulties. Developing good therapeutic relationships with the children and their families, is key for this post and in the wider service delivery.

Oasis Restore is the first UK secure school enabling young people to live their best lives, through education well-being and hope. We will care for children aged 12-18 who are on remand and sentenced to custody by the courts. Oasis Restore represents a revolution in youth justice: an opportunity for children within the criminal justice system to experience a restorative environment that creates the potential for them to thrive both now and for the future. Our healthcare team will build and model healthy and trusting relationships with children that enable them to feel safe, learn and reach their full potential.

Central and North West London NHS Foundation Trust is a Top Employer Award Winner. We have a Health and Justice Services Directorate, within which sits the ‘Children and Young People’ Service line working in partnership with ‘Youth Custody Service’ colleagues to provide responsive, trauma-informed primary care, mental health, neuro-developmental and substance misuse services to the young people and young adults within our care.

Please see attached JD&PS for full details of duties and responsibilities.
• To undertake health assessments, undertake clinics, provide and evaluate a range of health treatments and interventions, to meet the child’s healthcare needs and contribute to the wider continuous development of healthcare services.
• To plan, deliver and evaluate interventions for treatment as clinically appropriate using evidence-based models.
• To respond promptly to medical emergencies on site, providing immediate, safe, and effective care to children in accordance with clinical guidelines and safeguarding standards. To work as part of the multidisciplinary team during emergency situations, supporting the coordinated healthcare response and ensuring timely escalation to senior clinicians and external emergency services where required. The post holder will be expected to complete accurate post-incident documentation and contribute to follow-up care to support continuity and adherence to governance processes.
• Demonstrate knowledge, skills and understanding of health issues and treatment options to provide clinical guidance to all staff on matters relating to health and wellbeing.
• To ensure high standards of care are delivered in a changing healthcare environment, ensuring that the needs of the children are at the centre of practice.
• The post holder will work in an integrated manner within the Secure School and ensure that there is excellent communication and working relationships with all stakeholders, both internal and external.
• To participate in a flexible working arrangement which will include weekends and unsocial hours when required.
• To ensure processes/protocols are in place and followed for effective assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care for those children with physical and mental health and substance misuse problems.
• To safeguard vulnerable children in line with the Trust and Oasis Restore safeguarding children policy.
• To apply local Risk Assessment and management protocols, including working closely with colleagues to ensure information in relation to risk is collected and communicated sensitively and comprehensively.
• To make appropriate referrals to other available services for longer term interventions.
• Contribute to multi-disciplinary clinical practice to provide focused and integrated care and treatment programmes/packages.
• Work collaboratively with staff in other teams e.g. residential and education to provide integrated and coordinated care.
