For further information please refer to the job description and personal specification These responsibilities will be carried out under the guidance of the shift co-ordinator: To complete the first level assessment of the patients needs to gain an understanding of the physiological, psycho-social, spiritual and cultural needs of patients undergoing diagnostic tests for suspected cancer as well as those diagnosed with cancer and to develop a positive, realistic andsupportive attitude to ensure that the needs of the patient and family are met. This will include: Checking patients vital signs, blood results, patient and height and weight. Counterchecking patients vital signs, blood results, patient body surface area, chemotherapy prescription and consent before administration of treatment. Educating patients on their treatment protocol such as indications and side effects. Ensuring necessary medication and follow up appointments are obtained. To coordinate and supervise a shift, communicating effectively with members of a multidisciplinary team to deliver high quality, evidence-led care to patients. To exercise clinical judgment and decision making about patient needs in terms of long-term goals or plans. To plan, document, deliver and evaluate evidence-based nursing care for patients in a responsible and efficient way.
