Your new company
I am engaged on a project to recruit the 1st Platform Engineer for a growing Tech For Good business fresh from the acquisition of a leading energy company and will be working to reduce carbon emissions internationally.

This role is based in their Horley offices very close to Gatwick airport and you are required to be in the office 1 day per week.

Your new role
You will be joining an experienced Engineering team of 20+ split into 3 squads, but will be the first dedicated Platform Engineer as they look to standardise engineering practices, DevOps tooling, building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines, automating processes and improving development environments.

This role requires a hands on Platform Engineer with strong on prem expertise as they are 80% on-prem, with 20% being split across AWS/Azure Cloud.

Success requires someone who thrives on staying abreast of the latest industry trends and with a hunger to influence engineering standards - including challenging the status quo. You'll have influence to affect changes in the Engineering department and will have a meaningful impact on the team, evaluate new tooling, driving automation, and embedding best practice in logging, tracing and alerting.

What you'll need to succeed
A software engineering background is important to write clean, testable automation, build internal tools, and think in terms of version control, modularity and repeatability. You'll be okay with dealing with some legacy systems, physical infra, slower release cycles but will use your dev skills to modernise it.

They're looking for someone highly skilled in building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines (Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, GitLab), using Git branching strategies effectively, and delivering automation through Terraform, PowerShell and Bash.

Strong containerisation experience is essential, particularly Docker and Kubernetes/OpenShift, along with understanding message queues like RabbitMQ. The engineer must implement secure by design principles, embed observability frameworks and support testing through automated data refresh and environment management.

Desirable exposure includes Microsoft .Net Stack / React, Jira/Confluence administration, SonarQube, integration tooling like MuleSoft and native Azure components.

Strong communication, technical leadership and the ability to mentor others complete the profile.

What you'll get in return
You'll work for a company investing heavily into their technology team and where work life balance is not an abstract concept - no overtime or unrealistic expectations here and they offer flexible working hours to support individual commitments.

They are massive on culture and rewards and have regular staff socials to bring the team together. There is 8% pension match, private medical cover, SimplyHealth for dental and holiday starts at 25, rising to 28 with length of service and the option for all to purchase 5 additional days.
