Summary

Heavy Gauge Fabricator / Plater (Coded MIG Welder)

Location: Dudley, West Midlands
Pay Rate: £16.00 per hour
⏱ Overtime: Paid at 1.5x after 37 hours
Hours:

  • Monday – Thursday: 07:30 – 16:00


  • Friday: 07:30 – 12:30


    The Opportunity

    We are recruiting for an experienced Heavy Gauge Fabricator / Plater to join a well-established, ISO-certified engineering facility specialising in large-scale, high-integrity fabrications.

    This role is suited to fabricators experienced in heavy plate work and structural steel assemblies, working on projects for demanding industries including nuclear, subsea, oil & gas, mining, and power generation.

    You will be working on substantial fabrications with material thicknesses ranging from 20mm up to 200mm.

    Key Responsibilities
    • Coded MIG welding in accordance with BS EN ISO 15614 standards


    • Maintain certification to BS EN ISO 9606-1 (or be eligible for coding)


    • Fabrication and plating of heavy carbon steel components (up to 200mm thick)


    • Multi-run welding, back gouging, and full penetration welds


    • Reading and interpreting detailed engineering drawings


    • Fabricating structural assemblies including beams, columns, channels, box sections, and heavy plate structures


    • Safe operation of overhead cranes and heavy lifting equipment


    • Ensuring welds meet contract-specific NDT requirements (MPI, UT, DPI as required)


    • Working to tight tolerances in a quality-driven environment


      What We’re Looking For
      • Proven experience in heavy gauge fabrication and plating


      • Strong background in multi-pass MIG welding on thick section plate


      • Coded welder (or capable of passing weld test immediately)


      • Experience working with large fabrications and structural steel


      • Competent with cranes, slinging, and heavy material handling


      • Understanding of NDT and high-integrity weld requirements


      • Strong health & safety awareness
