Summary

Trainee Housing Solutions Officer - FTC (Homelessness)- Ref: THSO
Trainee fixed term contract - Starting salary £35,555.52 p.a.

This is a great opportunity for you to join the innovative and ambitious Housing Solutions Team at Broxbourne Council. We have trainee and officer level positions available, so whether you are an experienced housing professional, or looking to progress your career in housing, we are keen to hear from you.

In this customer-facing role, you will work alongside dedicated and experienced colleagues, interviewing, and assessing those at a risk of homelessness. You will manage a case load of clients, working collaboratively with colleagues and other agencies to give advice and provide solutions. This is a varied and challenging role, and the rewards of helping households resolve their housing needs, make it a great career choice.

If you want to apply to be part of our team, you should ideally have previous experience working within a Local Authority or in a housing or homelessness setting, and have knowledge of the relevant legislation, although transferable skills would be considered for this position. You should also be highly motivated, with a genuine interest in helping people. Previous experience working in a customer facing role is essential, as are excellent communication skills. Fluent spoken English skills are essential as this role requires having sensitive conversations with clients and setting expectations clearly. Good written and analytical skills are equally important, therefore a GCSE (or equivalent) in English and Maths is required, together with a full driving license.

The Council offers hybrid working arrangements. During the probationary period, the role is office-based so that our hands on, supportive and comprehensive training programme can be delivered in person; this approach helps new colleagues feel confident, connected, and fully equipped to thrive in the role.

This role requires a disclosure and barring service check as it is working with children or vulnerable clients.

We have adopted the core values of Teamwork, Innovation, Effectiveness and Respect (TIER).
The values and their underlying behaviours, demonstrate our commitment to providing excellent customer care, working in a joined-up way, always showing respect and looking at innovation and forward-thinking solutions. We pride ourselves on recruiting, developing and retaining talent who share this commitment.

We are committed to safer recruitment, safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and vulnerable adults. We expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

The Council’s benefits package includes generous leave entitlement, Employee Assistance Programme, benefits platform, full training and development programme, membership of the Local Government Pension Scheme and free membership to the Council’s local leisure centres, which includes free access to gyms, swimming pools, fitness classes, racket sport sessions, a health suite and a range of generous discounts across other leisure and culture services.

Broxbourne Council is an Equal Opportunities employer.

Details and application forms for all job vacancies are listed on the Council’s website.

Application forms must be submitted online by 10 March 2026 quoting the above reference.
