Job Advert
The HR Booth are delighted to be recruiting a Trust Manager on behalf of Tay Rivers Trust.
Please note that this is a fully remote role, however attendance is required at occasional in-person Trust meetings based in
Perth, Scotland.
Who are we?
Tay Rivers Trust (TRT) are a charitable organisation dedicated to the protection, restoration and understanding of our riparian
environment. Our vision is simple but ambitious: a Catchment that is among the best possible river habitats in the UK, where
nature thrives and where people of all ages are inspired to understand, value and care for their river.
We deliver this vision through scientifically based interventions, education, and collaboration with landowners, communities and
partner organisations. Recent projects include nature-based flood management across the Eden Catchment and innovative work to
secure safe fish passage during low-flow conditions. We are now working with landowners on one of the most ambitious riparian
planting programmes in the UK.
This is a pivotal moment in our journey. The Trust is entering a period of growth and increasing influence, and we are seeking an
exceptional individual to help guide that next chapter.
The Role
We are looking for an enthusiastic and forward-thinking Trust Manager to work closely with our Board of Trustees and lead the
day-to-day stewardship of the organisation. Reporting to the Chair and accountable to the Board, you will hold the strategic and
operational overview that ensures our people, partnerships, finances and projects are aligned to deliver lasting environmental
impact.
Key Responsibilities:
Team Management
* Responsible for the line management of TRT staff.
* Responsible for day-to-day organisational management, including health and safety compliance.
* Responsible for ensuring Trustees are kept informed of staffing matters and key project developments.
* Support staff in the delivery of existing and new scientific and educational projects.
Contractor Management
* Act as the point of contact between the Trust and external contractors at organisational level, providing any needed support
for staff in engaging with contractors at project level.
* Build strong, professional relationships with all TRT external providers.
* Facilitating appointment processes and ensuring that appropriate procurement procedures are adhered to in line with TRT
procedures.
* Working with Trustees to ensure that appropriate contracts are in place.
* Ensuring contractors deliver to time, cost and quality, and that timely payments are made by TRT.
Organisational Sustainability and Development
* Supporting the Trustees in the sustainable growth of the organisation and prioritisation of work programmes.
* Work with Trustees to develop and deliver on cost deliverable targets for future staffing expansion.
* Liaise with project staff, scientific and educational advisors, to agree costings for proposed projects, linking in as required
with Trust accountants to ensure that current working and proposed developments are properly budgeted and any project grant
applications are completed accordingly.
* Identifying and cultivating funding opportunities and long-term relationships with funders.
Partnership Working and Communication
* Supporting project staff, scientific and educational, to work collaboratively with other organisations at project level to
deliver TRTs objectives.
* Strengthening and, where appropriate, formalizing partnerships through MOUs.
* Identifying opportunities for TRT to work in partnership with other bodies at organisational level, to deliver TRTs objectives.
* Communicating externally on behalf of TRT, promoting our work, ethos and vision in a clear and engaging way.
Reporting
* Contributing to financial reporting and budgeting for the Trust
About You:
This role will suit an experienced professional who combines strong organisational leadership with a deep understanding of
catchment-scale environmental work. You will be comfortable operating at Board level, working alongside technical specialists, and
representing the Trust with authority and integrity to partners and funders.
Essential:
* Experience of charity workings and regulations.
* Experience of contract and contractor management.
* Experience of costing and budgeting workstreams.
* Working knowledge of Health & Safety at Work regulations, including risk assessments.
* A self-motivated individual able to work on their own initiative while remaining accountable to the Board of Trustees.
* Appreciation of river management, catchment issues and river restoration techniques.
* Experience of successfully supporting and leading a team of experienced and self-motivating staff.
* Ability to translate technical environmental issues into accessible language.
* Proficient IT skills.
Desirable:
* Previous senior management experience within environmental charity, education or science/project delivery.
* Experience of managing successful organisational change
* Evidence of achieving funding.
* Awareness of media (including social media).
If you are motivated by long-term environmental impact, collaborative leadership and the opportunity to make a meaningful
difference at catchment scale, we would love to hear from you.
