The Tregothnan Estate is a private family home with a world-renowned botanical garden. The Estate’s maintenance, gardening, forestry and joinery employees support the core estate and manage the beautiful surroundings on the edge of the River Fal. The Estate is also a landlord with a substantial portfolio of residential, commercial, and agricultural properties.
The Estate produces tea (the first in the UK), honey and jam; delivers Experiences including Garden and Tea Tasting Tours; and rents fabulous holiday accommodation, between the tea and the sea. The Role
We have an exciting new opportunity for a part-time Propagator, who will be responsible for all aspects of plant care, environmental control, plant health and hygiene management, record-keeping and polytunnel cleanliness.
The position will suit an experienced Horticulturist who has a passion for plant care and who wishes to achieve a fantastic work-life balance.
About You
You will need:
- A recognised horticultural qualification such as RHS Level 2.
- Proficiency in different types of propagation, including seed sowing, cuttings, layering and grafting.
- An understanding of plant requirements, such as soil, nutrients and water requirements of different species.
- Ability to undertake manual handling tasks, such as moving bags of compost (as the position will involve working on your own).
- To be organised, conscientious and have good attention to detail.
- Ability to work alone, using your initiative and be self-motivated.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills, professional and positive attitude, polite and good levels of personal presentation.
- Full UK driving licence and own transport, as we are in a rural location with no access to public transport.

- Salary circa £6,200pa (FTE £31,000pa) for 8 hours per week, depending on experience.
- 8 hours per week, to be worked over 1-2 days per week on any weekday (i.e. Monday to Friday). There is the possibility of up to 16 hours per week for the right candidate.
