As a modern, flexible and effective organisation, we’re driven to make a positive difference to the environment, the communities we serve and the careers of our people. That’s why, when you join us as a Financial Assessment Support Officer in the Financial Assessment Support Team, you’ll be encouraged to share your fresh thinking and empowered to explore new ideas that will shape and improve our services as well as your career.
Reimagine the possibilities.

Your role and responsibilities
In this role, you will support adults who need help providing the financial information required to determine their contribution toward care charges. You will assist people who may struggle to manage the process independently and who have no one else to support them.
You will be responsible for:
- Communicating with adults and their carers by phone, at surgeries, and occasionally through home or care‑home visits, ensuring a supportive, person‑centred approach at all times.
- Helping adults and carers complete financial assessments, offering clear guidance to support their understanding of the care‑charging process.
- Providing advice and practical support on welfare benefits and grants, explaining entitlements, guiding people through claims, and assisting with applications where required.
- Working closely with the Adult Social Care Personal Finance Team to ensure the needs of adults whose finances we manage are accurately understood and appropriately met.

You will need
-  a genuine enthusiasm for working with people and the ability to communicate clearly, confidently and with empathy.
- a flexible, adaptable approach, ready to respond to the changing needs of the service.
- an interest in learning about the welfare benefits system - previous knowledge is desirable but not essential, as full training will be provided.
You can view a full list of requirements in the Job and Person Profile (Word). If you believe you can succeed in this role, apply. Even if you don't meet all requirements, still apply. We would appreciate the opportunity to consider your application.

The team
Our team works within Suffolk County Council’s hybrid model, with colleagues spending two days each week working outside of their homes. Every four weeks, we come together for a dedicated team day at our Ipswich office. These in‑person sessions give us valuable time to share best practice, learn from one another’s experiences, and collaborate closely with colleagues across the wider Financial Inclusion and Advice Service and Adult Social Care.
A central focus of our work is income maximisation - ensuring that adults in Suffolk are receiving all the benefits and financial support they are entitled to. The team is committed to delivering high‑quality, person‑centred advice and assistance, helping people to navigate complex systems with confidence and clarity

Empowering Everyone
We’re big believers in potential, possibility and the power of different ideas. We’re always searching for ways to encourage, respect and enable everyone to be the best they can be. We want to represent the diverse communities we serve. We welcome applications from all individuals, especially those from groups that are currently underrepresented in the organisation, as shown in our Workforce Equality Report.
