VolkerRail Major Projects is an expert in collaborative working through joint ventures and alliance schemes. Collaborative working agreements are a proven strategy for delivering large, complex railway projects, and through its strong relationships with other major contractors, VolkerRail Major Projects has helped to deliver several of the biggest rail projects over the last decade.
East West Rail Alliance is a pure Alliance formed of AtkinsRéalis, Laing O'Rourke, Network Rail, and VolkerRail who are working collaboratively to provide passengers with much improved cross-country rail links. The project involves development of the railway infrastructure for the East West Rail (EWR) project, specifically focused on the Western Section (Oxford-Bletchley) and the ongoing work towards Bedford and Cambridge, aiming to create a new rail link between Oxford and Cambridge for better regional connectivity and growth. The current phase of EWRA is Marston Vale Line Acceleration (MVLA) which aims to achieve the introduction of 1 extra Train service Per Hour between Oxford and Bedford by 2030.

We have an excellent opportunity for an experienced Senior Commercial Manager within rail to work on the East West Rail Alliance.

Particular EWR Commercial Priorities
- Undertake the Head of Commercial and Alliance Management Team roles
- Mobilise the project and team and update the reporting and governance procedures
- Support the Alliance Director with strategic decision making
Attendance at Quadrant, Milton Keynes and Sites where appropriate
About you
About you
- Chartered Surveyor or equivalent professional membership
- Degree or equivalent appropriate experience
- Obtained a Recognised Professional Management Qualification or equivalent appropriate experience
- Over 15 years working in the Construction industry
- Experience and knowledge of the Rail Industry (Preferable)
- Strong, proven commercial experience
- The individual will be expected to attend sites &/or offices in line with the post's requirements, therefore a full UK drivers licence is required.
- Knowledge and Awareness of COINS (Preferable)
- Proficient in MS office applications (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook)
- High level of attention to detail.
- Ability to operate effectively in the site environment.
