The Band 6 Lung Cancer Associate Nurse provides high-quality, patient-centred nursing care to individuals diagnosed with lung cancer across the cancer pathway. The post holder supports patients and carers through assessment, treatment, and follow-up, working autonomously within the multidisciplinary team. The role includes coordination of the MDT helpline, supporting clinicians in outpatient clinics, symptom management, patient education, and contributing to service development in line with national cancer standards. Main Duties and Responsibilities Deliver specialist nursing care to patients with lung cancer, ensuring holistic assessment of physical, psychological, and social needs. Act as a key point of contact for patients and carers, providing information, advice, and ongoing support throughout the lung cancer pathway. Coordinate and manage the lung cancer MDT helpline, triaging calls, responding to patient and professional enquiries, and escalating concerns appropriately. Support medical staff during lung cancer clinics by assisting with patient assessments, symptom management, patient education, and coordination of care. Work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team to support treatment planning and continuity of care. Monitor and manage treatment-related symptoms and side effects, escalating clinical concerns in line with agreed protocols. Maintain accurate, timely clinical documentation in accordance with Trust policies and national guidance. Support, supervise, and provide guidance to junior staff, students, and support workers. Contribute to service development, audit, and quality improvement initiatives within the lung cancer service.
