We are seeking a motivated, organised and conscientious Senior or Principal Consultant to lead and coordinate a wide range of specialists on Environmental Assessment projects.
You will be joining an award-winning environmental and engineering consultancy which puts innovation, sustainability and resilience at the heart of its work. The role
• Leading the delivery of high-quality environmental assessments from statutory and non statutory Environmental Impact Assessments to Strategic Environmental Assessments, plus consent and permitting activities.
• Provide technical leadership and oversee deliverables, working with our in-house specialists across ecology, landscape, heritage, nature-based solutions, catchment management, stakeholder engagement, engineering, modelling, and more.
• Project management, ensuring our work meets the highest standards for quality, health & safety, time, and budget, keeping projects on track to ensure client satisfaction.
• Sharing knowledge, ideas and insight across JBA and with our clients to champion innovation and best practice.
• Supporting team development through mentoring, coaching and professional development.
• Helping us develop our business by spotting new opportunities, preparing tenders and developing new clients and sectors.
• Working closely with our clients to build strong, collaborative partnerships, taking a leading role in shaping how we work and ensuring our approach is open and forward thinking.
• Contributing to our ISEP Quality Mark accreditation.
Your role will be to assume the environmental management of a wide range of Environmental Assessment projects. Many of our projects relate to our framework success with the Environment Agency, but we also have a expanding and diversifying portfolio of development and planning projects for local authorities, third sector and private commercial clients. We are also experiencing significant growth in Strategic Environmental Assessment and Sustainability Appraisals. We are involved in all stages of projects, from strategic planning and feasibility, through business cases and consent applications, to supporting post-consent delivery and construction.
We are looking for candidates with a proven track record of delivering EIA, SEA and SA and a positive and professional approach. The role will be client facing and confidence in working with clients in solution-driven project delivery is essential. You must be used to working in a team, have excellent interpersonal skills and be an effective verbal and written communicator.
Qualifications:
• Undergraduate or postgraduate degree in Environmental Management, a related subject, or demonstrable professional experience which allows you to evidence your technical expertise.
• Professional accreditation with ISEP, preferably CEnv, or with another relevant professional body. We will consider candidates who are not Chartered and will support you through the process of becoming Chartered.
Essential attributes for the role:
• Demonstrable experience in leading and delivering Environmental Assessment, Sustainability Appraisals and Strategic Environmental Assessment projects in a variety of fields / sectors.
• An ability to collaborate with a team of multi-disciplinary colleagues to deliver the objectives of large and complex projects and ensure high-quality solutions are developed.
• Track record of project delivery, with good commercial and programme awareness and confidence in working with clients.
• Preparation of bids and tender submissions.
• Strong understanding of environmental legislation, relevant policy and guidance with an awareness of updates and emerging trends.
Desirable attributes for the role:
• A broad understanding of a wide range of specialist environmental disciplines and planning.
• Line management, mentoring and professional development.
• Experience of business development, leading and expanding work across new clients and sectors.
• Experience of Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects / Development Consent Order submissions.
• Experience of a wider range of environmental permits and consents e.g. ecological, FRAP, waste etc.
• Experience and understanding of environmental assessment, management and monitoring during construction.
• Experience of working in coastal and river settings and within the energy and/or regulated water sector(s).
Location:
The role will be based at our Leeds LS1 8EQ office, but other offices may be considered for exceptional candidates.
It is expected that the role will involve a significant degree of cross office working. JBA supports agile working which provides for greater flexibility with the way that we work. However, it is important to us that you attend the office on a regular basis.
