Crynodeb

Hays is partnering with a thriving SME to recruit a forward‑thinking Head of HR who will accelerate their next phase of growth. Seeking a bold, high‑impact leader who loves pace and is ready to shape the future of an ambitious organisation.

This role will steer the HR agenda with a strong focus on modernisation, automation, and continuous improvement, creating a more efficient, data‑driven approach that enables the organisation to scale with confidence. Working with senior leaders, you'll spearhead critical change, guide workforce transitions, and own governance and people‑risk, while creating a values‑driven HR function that delivers a standout colleague experience.

What you'll be driving

You'll lead a progressive HR function equipped to support growth, simplifying and digitising workflows and positioning people data at the heart of workforce planning. You'll translate organisational goals into a clear people strategy, leading initiatives around structure, capability and succession while partnering closely with senior leaders.

Developing the HR team will be a key part of your role. You'll create a coaching‑centred, inclusive environment that grows confidence, expertise, and future leadership potential. You'll also take the lead on sensitive and high‑risk people matters, from complex ER cases to TUPE, ensuring smooth and compliant outcomes from start to finish.

The Head of HR will also act as a trusted adviser to Directors and senior leaders, shaping thinking on culture, organisational change, and people‑related risk. Overseeing governance, wellbeing and compliance, ensuring robust payroll assurance, risk management and alignment with legislation and policy.

What you'll bring

MCIPD qualified (or with equivalent experience), you'll bring significant senior HR experience gained in complex and multi‑site environments, with a strong track record of implementing modern systems, automation and digital tools that support efficient and scalable HR delivery. A sound, current understanding of UK employment law is essential, along with confidence in managing high‑risk ER issues and leading TUPE processes. You'll also be comfortable operating at Board level, presenting insights clearly and influencing strategic decisions. Coaching and developing managers and HR professionals will be second nature, helping raise capability across the organisation.

The role requires a leader who is both strategic and pragmatic, commercially aware and genuinely committed to people. Strong organisation, adaptability, and proactivity are critical, as is the ability to manage competing demands with confidence. Credibility will come naturally through relationship‑building and sound judgement. Above all, the successful candidate will be a values‑driven leader who champions fairness, transparency, and wellbeing, and brings a positive, people‑centred approach to every aspect of the role.

Why join?

You'll enjoy a strong benefits package with enhanced holiday, flexible working options, and hybrid working. This is a rare opportunity to lead an HR function at a pivotal moment of organisational growth. You'll shape the systems, culture and capability that will define their future, with the autonomy, senior sponsorship, and scope to make a real difference!
