Purpose and Role
You will be responsible to the Registered Provider for the full day to day running of the home. The role carries overall accountability for operational performance, regulatory compliance and outcomes for residents, working closely with the Responsible Person where applicable.
You will ensure the service operates strictly within its CQC registration conditions and all legal and regulatory requirements. Safeguarding residents from abuse, neglect and poor practice must remain a clear priority at all times.
The post holder is expected to lead the home to achieve the best possible outcomes for people living with dementia, ensuring they are safe, well supported and treated with dignity and respect. You will promote and maintain high standards of care, embedding best practice across the service.
You will be responsible for developing and maintaining effective systems, structures and governance arrangements to support safe, compliant and well run services. This includes the effective management of financial, human and physical resources, while ensuring the service remains financially sustainable.
The Registered Manager will act as an ambassador for the home, supporting its reputation, visibility and relationships within the local community and with key stakeholders. All staff must be supported and guided to work in line with relevant professional Codes of Practice.
Day to Day Management of the Home
You will oversee the daily operation of the home on behalf of the Registered Provider, ensuring all legal and regulatory requirements are met.
You will set the culture and ethos of the home, ensuring care is person centred and responsive to individual needs, backgrounds and preferences.
You will ensure robust policies, procedures and systems are in place, with particular focus on safeguarding, health and safety and infection control.
You will oversee the assessment and delivery of care to ensure residents’ health and wellbeing needs are met and risks are appropriately managed.
You will ensure safe staffing levels at all times, including rota planning, cover arrangements and compliance with social care legislation.
You will build and maintain strong working relationships within the home, providing clear leadership, support and supervision to staff.
You will ensure the premises are maintained to required standards and provide a safe environment for residents, staff and visitors.
You will manage the home’s budget and resources in line with agreed systems and controls and contribute to business planning and service development.
You will maintain effective relationships with external professionals, commissioners, inspectors and stakeholders, including the Care Quality Commission.
You will regularly monitor performance, audit practice and drive continuous improvement to maintain high standards across the service.
Service User Care
You will ensure residents and prospective residents are provided with clear, accurate and accessible information in line with the Fundamental Standards.
You will arrange and oversee pre admission visits and assessments to ensure informed decisions and appropriate placements.
You will determine whether the service can safely meet the assessed needs of prospective residents.
You will negotiate fees where required with local authorities, individuals or families.
You will ensure all residents receive clear written terms and conditions and that these are fully understood.
You will oversee safe and well planned admissions and transitions into the home.
You will investigate complaints promptly and fairly, taking appropriate action and ensuring learning is embedded.
You will ensure residents’ cultural, emotional, nutritional, social, spiritual, physical and health needs are met through effective policies, systems and care practices.
Staff Management and Development
You will lead on recruitment, appointment and deployment of all staff groups within the home.
You will ensure full compliance with employment legislation and internal policies.
You will plan and manage staffing levels, rotas and skill mix to meet the needs of the service.
You will promote open communication, including regular staff meetings and clear channels for feedback.
You will ensure effective induction, supervision, appraisal and training arrangements are in place and maintained in line with statutory requirements and best practice.
Management of the Premises
You will ensure all heating, lighting, emergency and security systems are maintained and recorded appropriately.
You will ensure full compliance with fire safety requirements and other statutory inspections.
You will ensure the home meets all environmental health, infection control, building control, planning and health and safety requirements.
You will maintain the premises in good order and oversee planned maintenance and refurbishment programmes to keep the environment safe and fit for purpose.
Financial Management
You will manage budgets and control day to day expenditure within agreed limits.
You will maintain accurate records of residents’ personal expenditure.
You will ensure appropriate systems are in place to support residents to manage their own finances wherever possible.
You will oversee arrangements for residents unable to manage their own financial affairs.
You will oversee petty cash systems for the home and residents, ensuring appropriate authorisation, consent and regular review.
