What skills and experience we're looking for
We are seeking a dedicated, compassionate and child-centred Learning Mentor to join our pastoral and safeguarding teams. This is a key role within our school, working with and alongside our Learning Mentor Level 2 to support children who may find aspects of school life challenging and working closely with families to ensure every child feels safe, included and able to thrive.
You will:
• Provide one-to-one and small group support for pupils who need additional help to engage positively in school life.
• Build strong, trusting relationships with children to support their wellbeing, confidence and personal development.
• Work closely with teachers, parents, carers and external professionals to provide consistent and effective support.
• Contribute to the school’s safeguarding team, ensuring that children’s safety and wellbeing are always a priority.
• Offer early help and guidance to families, developing positive relationships built on trust and open communication.
• Promote emotional resilience, self-esteem and a sense of belonging through nurturing, inclusive practice.
• Be an active and supportive member of both the pastoral and wider school teams.
We are looking for someone who:
• Is passionate about supporting children and helping them overcome barriers to learning.
• Is approachable, empathetic and professional, with the ability to communicate effectively at all levels - with children, parents, staff and outside agencies.
• Understands the importance of safeguarding and is committed to keeping every child safe.
• Works well as part of a team, but can also use their initiative to support individual pupils and families.
• Demonstrates patience, flexibility and a genuine commitment to inclusion and equality.
What the school offers its staff
• A welcoming and supportive school community where every staff member is valued.
• The opportunity to work closely with a dedicated pastoral and safeguarding team.
• Ongoing professional development and training to support your growth.
• The chance to make a real difference in the lives of children and families every single day.
Visits to the school are encouraged on one of the following dates/times. Please telephone 0114 2302461 to book a place.
• Tuesday 3rd March at 9am and 4pm
• Thursday 5th March at 4pm
