Job Title: Principal Safety Assessment Specialist
Location: Aldermaston - 3 days onsite / 2 days working from home
Contract Length: 18 months
Pay Rate: Competitive
Hours: 37 hours per week - 7.4 hour days
Role PurposeThe Principal Safety Assessment Specialist leads the technical delivery of safety assessments and related documentation within a highly regulated environment. The role ensures that all safety documentation meets company and regulatory standards, provides guidance on safety strategy, and supports the development of technical capability within the team.
Key Responsibilities-
Lead the planning, preparation, and review of safety assessments and supporting technical documentation.

Ensure the delivery of safety documentation aligns with organisational standards, governance frameworks, and management system requirements.

Monitor the production and quality of safety documentation, using appropriate performance metrics.

Provide technical input into company safety policies, guidance, and strategic initiatives.

Support the design and delivery of technical training related to safety assessment.

Mentor and develop Safety Assessment Specialists and senior team members, fostering best practice in documentation and assessment techniques.

Maintain high standards of safety, security, environmental compliance, and health practices across all activities.

Contribute to continuous improvement by reviewing performance and identifying areas for enhancement in safety assessment processes.

Minimum 10 years' experience working within safety case environments, ideally in nuclear or highly regulated industries, providing sufficient exposure to complex, safety-critical operations.

Proven experience in Safety Assessment and preparation of Stage Safety Reports or equivalent safety documentation.

Experience in hazard identification and hazard analysis as part of safety case development.

Exposure to or support for engineering design activities, ensuring integration with safety assessments.

Awareness of intelligent customer requirements and the expectations of regulatory stakeholders.

Experience in Safety Case Manager responsibilities, including reviewing and assuring safety documentation.

Understanding of decommissioning or nuclear operations, including compliance with governance and regulatory standards.

Demonstrated ability to mentor junior staff and provide guidance on safety assessment techniques.

Relevant degree or equivalent experience in engineering, safety, or a related technical discipline.

Professional certifications in safety, nuclear safety, or quality management desirable
