Ready to impact a better future? As a Facilities Management Service Officer in our UK&E Justice and Immigration Facilities Management team, you’ll help keep the estate safe, compliant, and running smoothly — enabling colleagues, contractors, and visitors to operate securely and confidently.
You’ll play an important role in supporting essential maintenance activity, ensuring contractor safety and tool security, and contributing to a clean, well‑maintained environment. Your work will help create safe spaces that positively impact the people and communities we support every day.
Job Purpose:
To form part of a Works Service Team of multi skilled engineers.
Assist other trades and engineers in their duties as may be required forming part of a multi skilled team.
A working knowledge of Plumbing/Electrics would be an advantage.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Ability to self-motivate.
- Ability to use own initiative and to work to tight timescales.
- Ability to prioritise workload, working in a logical and methodical manner.
- Ability to communicate effectively at all levels, both in writing and orally (including good telephone manner).
- To carry out all duties assigned to him in a safe manner, observing all statutory regulations and local regulations.
- To ensure that various pre planned maintenance schedules are kept up to date and maintained as may be required.
- To assist in multi trade support of other members of the FM team in completing work
- Experience in working in a security environment.
- Related routine maintenance and repairs but within the capabilities of his ability, experience and training.
- To carry out other duties that may be delegated to him from time to time but which fall within his ability; experience and training.
- To operate machine tools safely and according to his training of installed equipment within the works service workshops.
- To assist the other members of the maintenance team with their activities as may be required, on other plant and apparatus.
- To carry out all duties assigned to him in a safe manner, observing all statutory regulations and local regulations.
- To maintain records of tools and report as required.
- To escort contractors around the site as and when required as per written instructions.
Skills and Knowledge required:
- Flexible and proactive with a commitment to customer satisfaction and continuous improvement to working approach.
- Good interpersonal skills.
- Will need to be a team member of the Facilities “Out of hours” call out roster.
Vetting and Checks:
This role requires Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) clearance, which involves verifying your identity, employment history, nationality, and criminal record to meet government security standards. In addition, depending on the nature of the role, you may need to obtain formal Security Clearance (such as CTC or SC), which includes more detailed background checks on employment, criminal record, and financial history to ensure suitability for working in secure environments. Please note that UK residency requirements may apply for certain levels of clearance. You will also complete an Occupational Health Questionnaire so we can identify and provide any support you may need to undertake the role effectively.
