Job Advert
Job Reference Number: 2232 Working Pattern: 35 hours per week, office based 2-3 days per week with some hybrid working. There will be some evening commitments for events throughout the year. Department: Campaigns & Alumni Relations Closing Date: Monday 9 March
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the University of Sheffield’s Alumni Relations team in a pivotal role bringing our global community together.
As our new Events Officer, you’ll support the full lifecycle of our alumni events—from the first spark of an idea to post-event evaluation. This isn’t just about logistics; it’s about delivering strategic impact that creates real value for our alumni community whilst supporting a wide-range of University priorities.
You will be a key player within the wider CAR team, assisting with international, volunteering, and fundraising events in addition to working with colleagues across the organisation. You will also provide support to and line manage the Communications & Events Assistant.
In this role, you will:
● Plan and project manage alumni events, including promotion, supplier management, and delegated budget responsibility.
● Manage staff and resources to ensure a smooth experience, while providing motivation, development, and cover for your direct report.
● Cultivate strong networks and relationships with senior colleagues, speakers, and external venues to ensure high-quality delivery.
● Act as a point of contact for guests, always delivering exceptional service and suitably representing our World Top 100 University.
● Take responsibility for health & safety at events, ensuring detailed risk assessments are in place for every activity.
● Use our CRM database to record data accurately, analysing event feedback, and creating reports to guide future success.
We are looking for someone with exceptional event management skills who thrives on being organised. You handle tight deadlines with ease and know how to prioritise effectively.
You are a natural communicator who can offer the highest level of customer service to our guests, whether via email, phone, or in person. If you are ready to build relationships, manage diverse projects, and create memorable experiences for our alumni community, we want to hear from you.
What we offer
The University of Sheffield is a remarkable place to work. Our people are at the heart of everything we do. Their diverse backgrounds, abilities and beliefs make Sheffield a world-class university. We build teams of people from different heritages and lifestyles from across the world, whose talent and contributions complement each other to greatest effect.
We’re committed to exploring flexible working opportunities which benefit the individual and University. We offer a fantastic range of benefits including a highly competitive annual leave entitlement (with the ability to purchase more), a generous pensions scheme, flexible working opportunities, a commitment to your development and wellbeing, a wide range of retail discounts, and much more.
