Site Assistant

Salary: £23,709 - £24,853

Contract: Permanent Start: April 2026

Location: Olsen House School, Merseyside

Our vision

At Olsen House School, our vision is simple: Dream • Believe • Achieve.

As a specialist ASD/SEMH school, we want every student to dream about their future, believe in themselves, and achieve outcomes that prepare them for life beyond school. This vision is underpinned by our values: Be Kind, Be Ambitious, Be Inspired, which shape how we work together as a school community.

About Olsen House School

Olsen House School is a specialist setting for students with Education, Health and Care Plans, with a core focus on autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and associated social, emotional and mental health needs. Many of our students have experienced barriers to learning or disruption to their education, and we respond with calm, structured, autism-responsive practice and exceptionally strong relationships.

We believe that students thrive when adults lead with kindness, hold ambitious expectations and inspire confidence and curiosity.

The opportunity

We are seeking a reliable, practical and professional Site Assistant to join our site team and work alongside the Site Manager.

This is a key operational role within the school. The Site Assistant supports the safe, secure and compliant day-to-day running of the school site, ensuring that buildings, grounds and facilities are well maintained and ready for learning.

In a specialist setting such as ours, the physical environment plays a vital role in student wellbeing and regulation. A calm, orderly and well-managed site directly supports our students to feel safe and ready to learn.

You will:

Support the day-to-day operation of the school site, including opening and closing routines

  • Act as a key holder and maintain site security procedures
  • Carry out proactive and reactive maintenance tasks within competence
  • Support statutory health and safety checks (e.g. fire alarm tests, emergency lighting, water checks) under direction
  • Assist with contractor visits and ensure safeguarding procedures are followed
  • Support cleaning standards and provide practical cover where required
  • Prepare rooms and facilities for school activities and events
  • Maintain safe and tidy external areas, including seasonal safety tasks (e.g. gritting)
  • Record site checks and report issues promptly

All duties will be carried out under the guidance of the Site Manager, with appropriate training and support provided.

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has experience in a site, caretaking, facilities or maintenance role
  • Is reliable, organised and takes pride in high standards
  • Has good practical DIY skills and works safely
  • Understands basic health and safety requirements (including COSHH)
  • Can work independently and use initiative appropriately
  • Communicates professionally with staff, students, parents and contractors
  • Is flexible and able to respond calmly to unexpected situations

Experience in a school or specialist setting is desirable but not essential.

Why work for us?

  • A supportive, values-led school community
  • Training and development relevant to the role
  • The opportunity to make a meaningful difference to students’ daily experience
  • Employee benefits including wellbeing support and retail discounts
  • Access to Kedleston Group professional networks and support
