Rate of Pay: £12.85 - £16.97 per hour
Summary:
Somerset Council is seeking a hardworking and reliable Cleansing Operative to join the team responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and presentation of the local environment. This physically active role is essential for keeping public spaces safe and clean for residents and visitors. The position involves a variety of outdoor manual tasks, including waste collection and specialized cleaning duties, often requiring the operation of a 3.5-tonne tipper vehicle to transport materials and equipment.
Responsibilities:
Carry out regular litter picking across designated areas to maintain high standards of environmental cleanliness.
Perform manual sweeping of footpaths, pavements, and other public areas to remove debris and dirt.
Follow all health and safety protocols, including the correct use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
Responsible for the timely and efficient emptying of public litter bins.
Essentials:
Experience driving a 3.5-tonne tipper or similar commercial vehicle is highly advantageous.
Prior experience in manual handling, outdoor maintenance, or waste management services.
Willingness to wear and use PPE as provided and required by the council for the duration of the shift
A full, clean driving licence is required for this role.
