Summary

Accountant / Accounts Senior

We’re looking for a Qualified or QBE Accountant / Accounts Senior with proven accountancy practice experience to join our team at Benson Wood & Co, where you will deliver accounts preparation, tax compliance and client portfolio management using cloud accounting software including Xero and Dext.

SALARY: Up to £40,000 per annum (depending on experience) + Benefits

JOB OVERVIEW

We have a fantastic new job opportunity for an Accountant / Accounts Senior with proven experience in an accountancy practice and strong technical expertise in accounts preparation and tax compliance.

As an Accountant / Accounts Senior you will manage your own client portfolio, prepare statutory accounts and tax returns, and support VAT, bookkeeping and financial reporting deadlines within a professional services environment.

The Accountant / Accounts Senior role offers the opportunity to contribute to forecasting, budgeting and management reporting, using modern cloud accounting software and digital tools to optimise delivery and enhance advisory support.

This position is more than just accounts prep. The role of an Accountant is changing, we’re embracing that shift, and this role will evolve as Benson Wood & Co grows. Giving you space to contribute, innovate, and take ownership.

DUTIES

Your duties as the Accountant / Accounts Senior include:

• Year-End Accounts Preparation: Preparing statutory year-end accounts for limited companies, partnerships and sole traders

• Tax Compliance: Completing corporation tax and personal tax returns accurately and on time

• VAT & Bookkeeping Support: Assisting with VAT returns, bookkeeping and reconciliations where required

• Client Portfolio Management: Managing your own portfolio and acting as a primary point of contact for clients

• Deadline Management: Collaborating with the Client Manager to meet compliance deadlines and team objectives

• Mentoring & Review: Reviewing work of junior team members and supporting their development

• Financial Planning Support: Assisting with forecasting, budgeting and management accounts when relevant

• Cloud Accounting Systems: Using Xero, Dext and related digital tools to streamline processes and maintain paper-free workflows


CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS

You are confident in your technical skills, reliable under pressure, and take pride in delivering clear, accurate work. You’ve worked in a practice environment and want to keep growing.

Must-haves:

• Experience in an accountancy practice

• CA, ACCA or AAT qualified (or QBE with proven experience)

• Strong technical ability in accounts prep and tax

• Confidence to manage your own time and take ownership of work

• Experience with cloud tools like Xero & Dext

• Alignment to our values

Nice-to-haves:

• Experience reviewing junior colleagues’ work

• Interest in advisory services like forecasting or planning
