There is a well-established appraisal system and commitment to support staff to develop leadership and clinical skills, through regular supervision and internal and external training opportunities.

You will be motivated to develop your own learning, contribute to service development and the training and development of colleagues and students.

The successful applicant will thrive on working as part of a team and have excellent communication skills. You will work closely with the Band 7 and deputise for them at times.



To provide a high standard, integrated OT service to children & young people, and their families, aged 0-18 years, referred to the Waltham Forest Children’s OT Service, working in a range of settings including clinic, and children’s own homes. This may involve crossing traditional health and social care boundaries and promoting close, effective working relationships across services.

You will be manage a defined caseload, autonomously with supervision.

You will provide functional assessment of children with special needs & disabilities and deliver individualised intervention aimed at maximising function, improving occupational performance and maximising participation.

You will advise on and prescribe specialist assistive equipment at home to support the child and family and improve or maintain occupational performance.

You may advise on and recommend adaptations to support the child to improve or maintain occupational performance and/or for access, independence and safety.

You will contribute to delivering and evaluating the Occupational Therapy Service provided to children. You will participate in audit to further your own & the team’s clinical practice & make recommendations for changes to practice, contributing to changes in or development of service protocols.

You may supervise, educate and assess the performance of OT students and supervise junior staff.

Probationary Period

This post will be subject to a probationary period.

Starting with Us

NELFT places great importance on new starters being properly welcomed into the Trust. All new starters will join the Trust on the first Monday of each month and undertake a comprehensive induction of up to two weeks, including mandatory training, systems training and the allocation of equipment. As part of the process, new starters will also have the opportunity to meet the executive team, senior managers, and attend several drop-in sessions focusing on engagement, health and wellbeing, and key processes. The induction will be held at our head office in Rainham, Essex.

High Cost Area Supplement - Outer London

This post also attracts payment for High Cost Area Supplement of 15% of the basic salary (with a minimum of £4,313 to a maximum of £5,436 p.a. pro rata for part time).
