A personal assistant is required to support a friendly young boy. The role focuses on providing safe, engaging and flexible support both at home and out in the community. The family is seeking someone who can confidently adapt their communication style to meet the client’s needs and help him feel understood, secure and included.
As a personal assistant you will be required to provide support in a range of areas including, but not limited to:
• Building a positive, trusting relationship with the client
• Providing supervision and support with safety awareness when out in the community
• Supporting the client to engage in fun, stimulating activities based on his interests
• Planning activities in advance so they can be included in his daily routine
• Offering respite for mum by keeping the client safely occupied and engaged
• Communicating flexibly and adaptively, according to his needs
The ideal candidate will be comfortable working in a home with pets (1 dog and 2 cats), outgoing, friendly, patient and understanding, with an awareness of autism and a willingness to learn. A driver is required to support community access. Experience of working with autistic children or young people would be beneficial but is not essential if you are committed to learning and supporting the client’s development.
