Job Description: Business Development Manager
Rose Hill Natural Burial Ground, Huddersfield

About Rose Hill Natural Burial Ground
Rose Hill is a respected natural burial ground in Huddersfield, dedicated to providing environmentally sustainable and meaningful funeral options. We partner with families, funeral directors, care homes, and related organisations to offer compassionate, respectful, and low-impact burial solutions.

Role Overview
As the Business Development Manager (BDM), you will be responsible for growing Rose Hill’s burial bookings by a minimum of 2 burials per week. You will identify, nurture, and convert opportunities from key enquiry sources, with a focus on funeral directors, care homes, and similar organisations. You will develop strategic relationships, expand our network, and collaborate with internal teams to ensure a seamless, respectful customer journey from first contact to burial.

Key Objectives
Achieve a minimum of 2 additional burials per week (approximately 104 per year) through new and existing channels.
Build and sustain strong relationships with primary enquiry sources: funeral directors, care homes, hospice organisations, and clergy.
Increase lead generation, conversion rates, and client satisfaction through proactive outreach and product/solution positioning.
Maintain accurate CRM records, reporting, and forecasting to support business planning.

Responsibilities
Develop and execute a proactive sales plan to meet or exceed burial targets.
Identify and engage key decision-makers within funeral homes, care homes, hospices, and other relevant organisations.
Present Rose Hill’s natural burial options, benefits, processes, and aftercare in a compassionate, knowledgeable, and compliant manner.
Nurture relationships with funeral directors and partner organisations to secure a steady stream of enquiries and referrals.
Attend and represent Rose Hill at industry events, death-care practitioner meetings, seminars, and community events.
Collaborate with the marketing team to create targeted campaigns, collateral, and digital content that resonates with funeral professionals and families.
Conduct site visits to build trust, demonstrate facilities, and address client questions.
Manage a pipeline within the CRM, track activities, conversions, and revenue forecasts.
Negotiate terms with partners where appropriate, ensuring compliance with regulatory and ethical standards.
Provide regular reporting to senior management on pipeline health, progress against targets, and market feedback.
Monitor competitor activity and market trends, adjusting strategies accordingly.
Ensure exemplary customer service and care in all interactions with families and partners.

Ideal Candidate Profile
Proven track record in B2B or B2C sales, preferably within the funeral, bereavement, care, or related sectors.
Experience in building and maintaining professional relationships with funeral directors, care homes, hospices, charities, or clergy.
Strong networking, negotiation, and closing skills with a consultative sales approach.
Excellent communication and presentation abilities; comfortable speaking with diverse stakeholders.
Empathetic, discreet, and able to handle sensitive conversations with tact and respect.
Self-motivated, resilient, and capable of working independently as well as part of a small team.
Proficient in CRM software (e.g., Salesforce, HubSpot, or similar) and Microsoft Office suite.
Knowledge of regulatory and ethical considerations relevant to funeral services and bereavement care.
Willingness to travel within the Huddersfield area and surrounding regions; occasional longer travel may be required.

Skills & Qualifications
Educational: Minimum of a relevant undergraduate degree or equivalent experience; further qualifications in sales, business development, or bereavement care are advantages.
Experience: Sales or business development experience in the funeral sector or related industries is highly desirable; experience with natural/green or eco-friendly products is a plus.
Personal attributes: Customer-focused, trustworthy, proactive, and able to manage multiple priorities with strong time management.

Performance Metrics
New burial bookings per week (target: +2).
Conversion rate from lead to booking.
Number of new funeral director/care home partnerships established per quarter.
CRM data quality and forecast accuracy.
Partner satisfaction and feedback.

Working Terms
Location: Rose Hill Natural Burial Ground, Huddersfield (with field visits across the region as required).
Contract: Full-time, permanent.
Hours: Standard business hours with occasional after-hours engagement for events, tours, or key meetings.
Salary: Competitive base with performance-based incentives/commission structure.

An inclusive, supportive team culture with a strong focus on ethics, care, and community.
Opportunities for professional development, networking, and industry involvement.

How to Apply
