What skills and experience we're looking for

Degree or equivalent

Qualified teacher status

Evidence of engaging in continuing professional development

Degree at 2:1 or above

Postgraduate qualification in subject or equivalent (Desirable)

Full, clean driving license

Knowledge and experience

Faculty Director or Subject Leadership experienceExperience of working across more than one school (Desirable)

A track record of delivering positive student outcomes

An outstanding classroom practitioner

A track record of examination success and improving results

Evidence of own pedagogy impacting the subject

Able to enthuse, motivate and lead staff through a sense of credibility

Engages in research and using it to inform pedagogical development

Engages with subject specific developments, innovation and research

Evidence of leading staff development, coaching and mentoring

Experience of leading a subject network and evidence of the impact

We are seeking an exceptional and ambitious leader to take on the role of WAT Director for Humanities and Sustainability. This is a pivotal Trust-wide position, offering the opportunity to shape and drive excellence in secondary History and Geography, alongside sustainability and climate action education across the curriculum.

The successful candidate will play a central role in improving curriculum quality, teaching, assessment, and outcomes, while positioning the Trust as a regional and national leader in subject curriculum development and sustainability education.

The Role

The WAT Director for Humanities and Sustainability will:

• Drive sustained improvement in curriculum quality, teaching, assessment and outcomes in secondary History and Geography.
• Lead and embed high-quality sustainability and climate action education across the wider curriculum.
• Work closely with Faculty Directors to develop and maintain a shared vision of excellence in curriculum design, teaching and assessment across the Trust.
• Support the development and implementation of a coherent, shared curriculum for History and Geography across the secondary phase.
