The Medicines Management Administrator will provide essential support to GPs, Pharmacists, Advanced Nurse Practitioners (ANPs), and Nurse Prescribers in managing prescriptions and medicine-related enquiries. The role involves liaising with patients and external organisations such as the Medicines Order Line (MOL), ensuring efficient and safe medication management. Exceptional organisational, communication, and problem-solving skills are required to manage multiple responsibilities in a dynamic healthcare environment. Key Responsibilities Prescription Administration Process repeat prescription requests from patients, pharmacies, and MOL in line with practice policies. Ensure prescriptions are accurately prepared and available for GP approval within appropriate timeframes. Manage electronic and paper prescription requests, ensuring compliance with Electronic Prescription Service (EPS) protocols. Identify and prevent over-ordering of medications, highlighting discrepancies to the prescribing team. Assist in drug monitoring, ensuring compliance with agreed protocols and safety guidelines. Support pharmacists with medicines management safety audits. Manage medication changes following hospital discharge or specialist advice. Book patient appointments for medication reviews and monitoring. Communication and Patient Interaction Serve as the primary point of contact for patients regarding medication queries. Provide clear explanations to patients on prescription processes and EPS. Liaise with pharmacies and external healthcare providers to streamline prescription services. Handle patient enquiries efficiently via telephone, email, and face-to-face interactions. Educate patients on medication waste reduction and responsible prescribing. Data and Information Management Maintain accurate records on the clinical system, ensuring compliance with data protection regulations. Conduct audits and run reports to support prescription service improvements. Update patient records with medication changes and review dates. Quality and Compliance Ensure adherence to policies on controlled drug prescriptions and restricted items. Report and support investigations into prescription-related incidents. Contribute to maintaining high standards of care by identifying areas for improvement. Uphold confidentiality and data protection principles in all interactions. Teamwork and Professional Development Work collaboratively with the wider practice team to ensure efficient medicines management. Provide support and training to new staff regarding prescription processes. Participate in team meetings and contribute to service development initiatives. Undertake training and development opportunities to enhance knowledge and skills. Additional Information This role requires flexibility to adapt to service demands and changing healthcare priorities. The post-holder must adhere to the policies and procedures of Greater Derby Primary Care Network, including safeguarding, confidentiality, and health and safety regulations.
