Crynodeb

This appointment will be based at the West Yorkshire Heart Centre, Leeds General Infirmary, one of the largest and most modern tertiary cardiac centres in the UK, serving a population of over 3 million. There are 6 state of the art Cardiac Catheter laboratories, with over 2000 PCIs, including 24/7 primary PCI, over 900 invasive electrophysiology/cardiac ablations and in excess of 700 implantable device procedures per annum, making the West Yorkshire Heart Centre one of the highest volume units in the UK. The TAVI service is the largest in the UK outside of London. In addition, cardiac MRI, adult congenital cardiology, paediatric cardiology and interventional paediatric cardiology, as well as adult and paediatric cardiac surgical services, all complement each other within the same site. The department consists of 2 inpatient wards (one acute admissions cardiology ward), a day case interventional ward, a day case seated suite, 6 lab catheter suite and a 10 bed CCU. The post is fixed term for one year (starting September 2026), with options to extend if mutually agreed. The candidate will be expected to provide supervised input into the care of device patients. The post would be ideally suited to those approaching or having achieved CCT (or equivalent) in cardiology with a subspecialty interest in complex devices. The role will include outpatient and inpatient management, device implantation and follow up. There will be an expectation to become involved in leading service evolution and waste reduction programmes. The successful candidate will also be expected to contribute to the departments research and clinical trials programme. A tailored training programme will be negotiated around previous experience, and professional development plans. Whilst there is no formal commitment to out of hours work, there will be opportunities to contribute to gaps on the StR on all rota where appropriate. The applicant should be aware that this will mean only basic salary will be paid. There will be opportunities to take part in the StR on call rota if there are gaps, but this should not interfere with the day to day commitments of the fellowship post.
