Clinical Duties & Patient Care Responsibilities Deliver clinical services of the highest professional standard at consultant level within the Department. Work collaboratively with consultant colleagues and the multi-disciplinary team (MDT) to provide a high-quality, safe, and well-led service for patients at Ashford & St Peters Hospitals. Provide expert diagnosis, investigation, treatment, and ongoing management of patients in accordance with Trust policies, national guidance, and best clinical practice. Deliver Direct Clinical Care (DCC) across all areas of the Department, supporting senior clinical decision-making and sharing equitably in the clinical workload. Provide comprehensive senior clinical cover to the Department, ensuring patient safety and continuity of care. Maintain continuing responsibility for patients under their care, including associated clinical administration, across a 7-day service model. Contribute, alongside consultant colleagues, to 7-day consultant ward cover at St Peters Hospital. Participate in the General Internal Medicine (GIM) on-call rota during rotations at St Peters Hospital. Work closely with consultant colleagues in A&E to support the effective management of acute medical emergencies. Engage fully in the care of patients outside the Department, providing timely specialist advice and opinions when requested by other specialties. Work with Hub GPs within the Northwest Surrey Locality Hubs to support integrated patient care. Assist in the development, use, and teaching of SAMS pathways, supporting safe and efficient patient flow. Collaborate with CSH Surrey colleagues to ensure delivery of agreed performance targets and service objectives. Provide prospective cross-cover for consultant colleagues to ensure continuity of Geriatric Medicine services across Ashford & St Peters Hospital and CSH Surrey community hospital wards during periods of leave. Ensure safe and effective handover of care at all times. Administrative, Leadership & Professional Responsibilities Engage proactively with medical, nursing, operational, and managerial colleagues to deliver departmental objectives, including improved patient experience and high-quality clinical outcomes. provide clinical leadership within the Department, supporting service development and quality improvement initiatives. Actively participate in education, training, audit, research, and clinical governance activities across the multi-disciplinary workforce. Support the delivery of Trust priorities, national standards, and transformation programmes. Undertake administrative duties associated with patient care and departmental responsibilities in a timely and effective manner. Participate flexibly in service delivery, with any changes to duties agreed through negotiation and reflected in team job plans. Undertake any other duties appropriate to the role of a consultant in line with Trust requirements.
