Job Introduction

We’re looking for aDomestic Assistantto join ourSodexoteam atNorth Devon DistrictHospital.In this vital role, you’ll help create a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for patients, staff, and visitors. What you’ll do:

  • Carry out scheduled cleaning tasks in designated areas, following all relevant policies and procedures.
  • Maintain consistently high standards of cleanliness across all areas of responsibility.
  • Safely manage and dispose of domestic and clinical waste in line with infection prevention and control guidelines.
  • Replenish consumables such as paper towels, toilet rolls, soap, and other cleaning supplies.
  • Use, store, and maintain cleaning equipment and materials safely and in compliance with COSHH regulations.
  • Perform a range of domestic duties including cleaning sanitary areas and surfaces, bed cleaning, dishwashing, curtain changing, floor care, and waste collection.
  • Respond to ad-hoc cleaning requests and report any maintenance or care concerns to supervisors, ensuring a patient-focused service.
  • Support hospital operations by undertaking additional housekeeping or departmental duties as required by the line manager.

  • Working within a cleaning team, dealing with waste, smells, bodily excretions and dirt

  • Ability to adhere to instructions, standards and procedures

  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Basic literacy
  • Physically able to push a cleaning trolley and move light furniture
  • High standard of personal hygiene
