About us.
PA Media Group is the UK’s leading provider of trusted news, information, and data services. Our purpose is to build trust in news, media and content., for over 150 years we have played a significant role in the UK’s media ecosystem, delivering fast, accurate and impartial content to newsrooms, businesses, and institutions across the country and internationally.
Today, PA Media Group is evolving. As the media landscape faces profound change, ; from the impact of AI to public trust in news; our role, voice, and influence matter more than ever.
About the role.
This is a rare opportunity to join PA Media Group at a pivotal moment.
We are seeking a senior public affairs leader to provide credible, hands-on leadership during a defined period of change. Reporting directly to the CEO, you will ensure PA Media Group has a clear, confident, and influential presence with Government, regulators and key decision-makers across the UK media and policy landscape, helping to strengthen trust in news, media and content at a time when credibility and authority matter more than ever.
This is an interim, mission-led role. You will be expected to pick up the brief quickly, establish authority at pace, and deliver tangible progress; not simply set direction.
The focus is on influence, outcomes, and positioning PA Media Group with a meaningful “seat at the table” on issues that matter to the future of news, journalism, and public interest information.
Key areas of focus will include engagement around BBC Charter-related activity, media policy, AI, misinformation and disinformation as well as the long-term sustainability of trusted news.
What you’ll do.
Working closely with the CEO, General Counsel and Executive team, you will:
* Develop and deliver a clear, actionable public affairs strategy aligned to PA Media Group’s short, mid, and long-term priorities.
* Further position PA Media Group as a credible, authoritative voice on the future of news and journalism with Government, regulators, and industry leaders
* Build and maintain senior relationships across Whitehall, Parliament (including MPs and Lords), regulators, sector bodies, and trade associations.
* Monitor and interpret political and regulatory developments both in the UK and globally as appropriate advising the CEO and Executive team on implications and opportunities.
* Commission and translate insight and research into clear policy positions, briefings, and engagement materials.
* Shape and articulate PA Media Group’s external narrative on complex, high-profile public interest issues.
* Influence internally at Board and Executive level, helping align public affairs activity with wider business objectives.
About you.
You will be a senior public affairs practitioner who understands both how Whitehall and Parliament work and how to deliver results within a business.
You will bring:
* Significant, recent public affairs experience with hands-on delivery under the current UK Government, or relevant sector experience in previous Governments
* Strong sector credibility, ideally gained within news, media, data, or digital services organisations (or representing them at senior level)
* A proven history of influencing Government, regulators, and policymakers to deliver tangible outcomes. Effective relationships with the Department of Media Culture and Sport would be an advantage.
* Experience shaping compelling narratives on complex, sensitive public interest issues. Communicates complex issues succinctly and persuasively.
* Confidence operating at Board and Executive level, with the judgement to challenge constructively and advise with authority, whilst delivering public affairs strategies.
* Works effectively with non‑specialist colleagues, providing guidance and clarity. Offers light‑touch line management and coaching to a small team. Builds momentum through inclusive, low‑ego leadership.
* Experience in interim or fixed-term senior roles — picking up a brief quickly, building trust and delivering at pace is highly desirable, as is familiarity with new technologies including AI, misinformation and disinformation and the influences which help maintain public trust in news.
Why join us?
This is a high-impact role with direct access to the CEO and visibility across senior leadership. You will have the opportunity to shape PA Media Group’s external influence at a critical moment for the media sector, helping reinforce the organisation’s role as a trusted voice in debates that matter to the future of news and public interest information.
The role is offered on a fixed-term basis to meet a defined organisational need, with scope to review longer-term requirements as
the work progresses.
