SEMH Teaching Assistant (Secondary)

Prospero Teaching are working in partnership with a specialist SEMH School in Havant to recruit resilient and committed SEMH Teaching Assistants to support secondary-aged pupils with complex needs, including SEMH, Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) and associated social and emotional difficulties.

This is a highly challenging but rewarding role, suited to individuals who can provide consistency, emotional stability and clear boundaries for young people who may present with distressed or dysregulated behaviour. You will play a key role in helping pupils feel safe, understood and supported within the school environment.

The school is seeking calm, non-judgemental and emotionally intelligent individuals who can build strong, trusting relationships with pupils who may have experienced trauma, disrupted education or difficulties engaging with learning. You must be confident in managing behaviour, de-escalating situations and remaining composed under pressure.

Previous experience working with secondary-aged young people, particularly those with SEMH or Autism, is highly desirable. A proactive, reflective and team-focused approach is essential.

Experience, Training and Qualifications:
- A calm, grounded approach in challenging and high-pressure situations
- Strong behaviour management and de-escalation skills
- Ability to act as a consistent, stable adult role model
- Experience supporting pupils with SEMH and/or Autism
- Confident supporting emotional regulation and social development
- Patient, caring and an excellent communicator
- Willingness to self-reflect, learn and develop professionally
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Willingness to complete safeguarding training
- Ability to attend a face-to-face or video registration interview

To be eligible for this role through Prospero Teaching, you must:
- Hold the Right to Work in the UK
- Hold an enhanced DBS certificate with the child barred list (registered to the update service), or be willing to apply for one
- Provide two professional references related to working with children or young people
