Probation Employment Pathway Eligibility

Probation Employment Pathway (PEP) is a recruitment scheme targeted at supporting individuals who have history of criminal convictions and who face barriers to employment.

PEP is open to anyone who within the last 10 years has received:

• A custodial conviction and has been released within from prison

• A conviction resulting in a community sentence

• A conditional discharge

• An out of court disposal

The Probation Employment Pathway is an exception to fair and open competition and is only open to eligible applicants. Eligible applicants who pass our assessment processes will be offered up to a 2 year fixed-term appointment, under an accredited Exception 2 scheme within the Civil Service Recruitment Principles.

The Peer Mentor Coordinator leads the delivery of a local Peer Mentoring service, supporting the Engaging People on Probation (EPOP) agenda.

You will recruit, train, and support volunteer Peer Mentors, coordinating opportunities for them to contribute across probation settings. The role involves maintaining effective systems for service delivery, ensuring strong safeguarding and risk‑management practice, and embedding lived experience into service improvement through activities such as focus groups and lived experience panels.

Working flexibly across sites, you’ll also contribute to the development of peer‑led practice at a regional and national level. Lived experience of the criminal justice system and an understanding of probation practice are desirable.
