Job summary: The Deputy Practice Manager supports the Practice Manager in the day-to-day management and development of the GP practice. The post holder will deputise for the Practice Manager when required and play a key role in ensuring the smooth running of administrative, financial, HR, and operational systems, while maintaining high standards of patient care and service delivery. Job responsibilities: Management & Leadership Support the Practice Manager in the overall management of the practice Act as deputy in the Practice Managers absence Assist in staff supervision, performance management, and appraisals Promote a positive and professional working environment Support recruitment, induction, and training of staff Operational Management Oversee daily administrative and reception operations Ensure compliance with CQC regulations and NHS contractual requirements (GMS/PMS/APMS) Contribute to practice policies and procedures Support implementation of new services and practice developments Monitor and improve patient access and service delivery HR & Staffing Assist with HR processes including rotas, sickness absence, annual leave and disciplinary procedures Support payroll preparation and staff records Ensure compliance with employment law and practice HR policies Financial & Contractual Assist with financial management including monitoring income and expenditure Support claims, QOF, PCN and enhanced service income Assist with budget planning and reporting Support contract management and liaison with NHS bodies IT & Information Governance Support use of clinical systems (e.g. EMIS/SystmOne) Ensure data protection and GDPR compliance Support IT systems and liaise with external providers Patient Services Manage and respond to complaints in line with NHS guidance Support patient engagement and feedback processes Ensure high standards of confidentiality and patient care Person Specification Essential Experience working in General Practice or NHS primary care Previous supervisory or management experience Knowledge of GP contracts (GMS/PMS/APMS) Understanding of CQC requirements Strong organisational and communication skills Ability to work under pressure and prioritise workload Good IT skills (Word, Excel, clinical systems) Desirable Management qualification (e.g. ILM, NVQ Level 4/5 in Management) Experience with payroll and finance systems Experience with QOF, PCN and enhanced services Experience using EMIS or SystmOne Knowledge of HR processes and employment law
