An established and well-respected residential housebuilder based in Portsmouth is seeking an experienced Buyer to join their commercial team. This is a key role within the business, responsible for ensuring the timely and cost-effective procurement of materials and services across multiple housing developments.

The Role

As Buyer, you will play a vital part in supporting the delivery of high-quality new homes by managing the full procurement cycle. You will work closely with Commercial, Construction, and Technical teams to ensure materials and subcontract packages are sourced efficiently, within budget, and in line with programme requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Procuring building materials, plant, and subcontract packages for residential developments

  • Negotiating prices, terms, and lead times with suppliers and subcontractors

  • Placing orders in line with build programmes and monitoring deliveries

  • Maintaining strong supplier relationships and identifying new supply opportunities

  • Monitoring market trends and material price fluctuations

  • Ensuring compliance with company procedures, quality standards, and health & safety requirements

  • Supporting cost control and value engineering initiatives

About You

  • Proven experience in a Buyer or Procurement role within residential housebuilding

  • Strong knowledge of construction materials and subcontract procurement

  • Excellent negotiation and commercial awareness

  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously

  • Confident communicator with strong relationship-building skills

  • IT literate, with experience using procurement or COINS-type systems (desirable)
