Job Title: Interim Head of Development & Building Control

Salary: £91,755 to £109,000
Contract: Interim Role - initial period of 12 months
GI Group are now seeking an Interim Head of Development & Building Control for our Public Sector client.
PURPOSE:
To be responsible and accountable for the leadership, management and performance of a key Councils services and, as a member of the Council's Management Team.
DUTIES:
· Provide strategic direction and operational leadership for the Development Delivery service area, driving high performance and accountability across busy teams.
· Making impactful decisions in line with the Council's Constitution and Scheme of Delegation, ensuring effective delivery of services and projects.
· Lead service improvement initiatives, embed best practices, and ensure statutory and regulatory compliance.
· Oversee financial management, maximising the use of resources and delivering efficiency savings.
· Collaborate with the Head of Development (Policy & Local Plan) to ensure seamless management across all aspects of the service.
· Actively contribute to the Council's corporate objective and strategic direction as a member of the Management Team, supporting cross-department initiatives and corporate projects.
· Provide authoritative advice to Members and stakeholders on current and emerging issues, risk, and policy within the service area.
PERSON SPECIFICATION:
· Substantial service management experience in local government or similar complex environments.
· Proven leadership of large, fast-paced service areas.
· Demonstrable track record of delivery service improvements and managing operation change.
· In-depth knowledge in at least one key service area (Planning, Building Control, etc)
· Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
· Strong decision-making abilities and high level of professional credibility.
