Hours:
Monday to Friday | Shift pattern between 08:00-16:00 or 11:00-19:00

Payrate: £16.38 - £19.30 p/h inc. hol. pay

The Role

PPM Recruitment are currently working in partnership with a leading Facilities Management provider to recruit an experienced Mechanical Craftsperson Contract in Birmingham.

This is a key role within a busy healthcare environment, responsible for delivering high-quality planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive mechanical maintenance across a large NHS estate. The position is primarily based at the Acute Hospital, with additional support required at the Mental Health Unit and retained estate when needed.

You'll be working to strict HTM standards, contractual KPIs, and Health & Safety regulations to ensure the estate remains safe, compliant, and fully operational.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out PPM, testing, fault finding and reactive maintenance on mechanical plant and systems
  • Work on equipment including AHUs, FCUs, boilers, calorifiers, plantroom equipment and associated services
  • Ensure all works are completed in line with HTMs, statutory regulations, CDM and site procedures
  • Accurately record all works via CAFM systems (Maximo or similar)
  • Diagnose faults and carry out unsupervised repairs, escalating issues where required
  • Support Mechanical Team Leader and wider engineering teams with technical knowledge
  • Maintain workshops and work areas in a clean, tidy and safe condition
  • Work across sensitive hospital environments including ITU, A&E, theatres and mortuary areas (following Trust procedures)
  • Use PDA/radio for job allocation and communication
  • Assist with materials lists for remedial works
  • Participate in appraisals and ongoing training
  • Work towards AP/CP duties and additional competencies (medical gas, pressure systems, water, ventilation)

Requirements

  • City & Guilds (or equivalent) Mechanical qualification
  • Indentured apprenticeship or equivalent training
  • Strong working knowledge of mechanical building services plant
  • Previous experience within healthcare or healthcare PFI environments (highly desirable)
  • Understanding of HTMs, Health & Safety and compliance-led maintenance
  • Ability to work independently and manage workload effectively
  • Flexible approach to working hours and duties
  • Willingness to learn new techniques and undertake further training
