Lead Veterinary Surgeon – Leicester
Salary up to £75,000 DOE | Tier 3 RCVS Hospital | No OOH

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Lead Veterinary Surgeon to join a Tier 3 RCVS accredited veterinary hospital in Leicester, Leicestershire. This is a senior leadership role within a state-of-the-art veterinary hospital, offering advanced clinical facilities, a highly skilled multidisciplinary team, and a strong focus on wellbeing and career development.

This role is ideal for a confident, motivated veterinary surgeon who enjoys mentoring others, leading clinical standards, and working within a progressive hospital environment.

The Practice

This modern, well-equipped veterinary hospital provides both first-opinion and advanced referral-level care and is supported by a dedicated 24-hour veterinary and nursing team, ensuring excellent continuity of care and work–life balance.

Facilities include:

• In-house CT scanner
• Advanced orthopaedics (TPLO, TTA, Tightrope, ASIF kit)
• Arthroscopy
• Dental suites with dental X-ray
• Video endoscopy
• Advanced ophthalmology equipment


You’ll work alongside certificate holders in ophthalmology, orthopaedics, soft tissue surgery and ECC, managing a varied and rewarding caseload.

The Role – Lead Veterinary Surgeon

As Lead Vet, you will play a key role in shaping clinical excellence and team culture while remaining hands-on clinically.

Key responsibilities include:

• Leading, mentoring, and line-managing a team of 8 veterinary surgeons
• Maintaining and developing high clinical standards
• Supporting CPD, case discussions, and team development
• Working closely with the Practice Manager and Clinical Director
• Contributing to the hospital’s long-term clinical and leadership strategy


You’ll receive 0.5 days of protected admin time per week to support your leadership responsibilities.

Rota & Working Pattern

• Full-time position
• 4–5 days per week
• 1:4 Saturdays
• 1:15 Sundays
• No nights / no OOH
• Bank holidays on rota with additional pay


About You

Essential:

• RCVS registered Veterinary Surgeon
• Minimum 5 years’ UK small animal practice experience
• Confident in:
• Routine neutering
• Laparotomies
• Abdominal ultrasound
• TFAST / AFAST
• GDVs
• Dental procedures
• 15-minute consultations


Desirable (but not essential):

• Previous leadership or line management experience
• Certificate holder or working towards a certificate
