An opportunity has arisen to join our fast-growing supported housing provision. Utopia Supported Housing has been providing supported housing for young people in need since 2016 with accommodation settings covering Hastings, Bexhill and Eastbourne. We have tenders country wide and work with many local authorities to provide a high-quality provision where young people can safely grow and be given the chance to create a positive future. Utopia Supported Housing has been an Ofsted registered provider since 2024
We are looking for support workers who know how to make a house a home and support 16–17-year-olds find their independence and go on to live a good quality of life.
Do you have experience of working with young people who may have had traumatic backgrounds, emotional & behavioural difficulties, childhood trauma and complex behavioural needs or do you have caring, empathetic & supportive qualities that you feel may make you an excellent support worker, if so we would love to hear from you.
For this position you will need:
the ability to use computer systems and Microsoft packages
professionalism when liaising with local authorities and outside agencies
strong people and communication skills with the ability to build strong rapports
a good knowledge of equality and diversity
to provide a safe, supportive and welcoming environment for young people to thrive
the ability to support young people from traumatic background
to maintain cleaning and health & safety within home accommodation settings
an understanding of the importance of safeguarding and child protection and adhering to policies in place
the ability to teach young people essential independent living skills through key working sessions, while promoting young person engagement and self-esteem
For this position you will need to have:
experience of working with children or young people is desirable however, any experience in care will be sufficient
to obtain a Level 4 Children, Young People & Families Practitioner Diploma or be willing to work towards this (funded by Utopia)
experience working in a regulated provision such as Ofsted or CQC is desirable however, not essential
applicants must be over 21 years of age
applicants must have the right to work in the United Kingdom (Utopia is unable to provide sponsorship)
Due to government criteria for enrolling onto the mandatory Diploma qualification required, applicants must have lived in the UK for 3 years continuously, cannot be on a student visa and must have indefinite leave to remain.
Working schedule:
This is a permanent position for a zero hours contract. Employees can work a minimum of 15 hours per week and a maximum of 60 hours per week. Employees can provide their availability monthly or can provide a long-term shift pattern that works for them. There is overtime available and these shifts are posted on our rota system for employees to claim on a first come first served basis. Where possible the rota will be one month ahead.
Our rota runs 365 days per year, Monday-Sunday and includes bank holidays. The rota covers all placements across Hastings, Bexhill and Eastbourne. Where possible we will allocate employees shifts within their home town however, staff are except to go to any placement.
Our main shift available is 08:00-23:00 with a sleep on-site, finishing at 08:00 the following morning. 08:00-23:00 is paid hourly and the sleep on-site is paid as an additional payment. There are a few additional shifts available such as 08:00-22:00, 10:00-20:00 and 12:00-15:00 however, these are not frequent and applicants will need to be available to work the main shift.
Salary:
Employees are paid monthly, on the same day each month. All employees are automatically setup with our company pension scheme however, there is an option of opt out of the pension.
The hourly rate of pay is £12.21 and there is an additional payment of £34 per shift for sleeping on-site. There is an enhanced rate of pay for all bank holidays.
