SALARY: £28,595 - £31,022 FTE / £23,107 - £25,661 Actual Annual Salary (dependent on experience) + Benefits

LOCATION: Leicester, Leicestershire, East Midlands (LE2)

JOB TYPE: Part-Time, Permanent

WORKING HOURS: 35 Hours per week, term time (38 weeks per year) plus 21 hours during school holidays. Working hours are 7.30 am - 3.00 pm, Monday to Friday, with a 30-minute unpaid break. Flexible working will be required.


JOB OVERVIEW

We have a fantastic new job opportunity for a HR Administrator / Human Resources Assistant to deliver high-quality, local HR services within an education setting. This role plays a key part in supporting staff throughout the employee lifecycle, from recruitment and onboarding through to payroll and absence management.

As a HR Administrator / Human Resources Assistant you will act as the first point of contact for HR-related queries, providing professional, confidential and compliant advice while working closely with managers and external HR and payroll providers.

The HR Administrator / Human Resources Assistant role requires strong organisational skills, attention to detail and the ability to manage sensitive information in line with safeguarding, GDPR and safer recruitment requirements.

DUTIES

Your duties as the HR Administrator / Human Resources Assistant include:

• First Point of Contact: Acting as the initial contact for all HR-related queries and requests

• HR Advice & Support: Providing first-line HR advice and escalating complex matters when required

• Recruitment Administration: Coordinating end-to-end recruitment processes in line with safer recruitment and statutory guidance

• Onboarding & Compliance: Completing pre-employment checks including references and DBS, ensuring full compliance

• Payroll Preparation: Processing monthly payroll information, including overtime and additional duties, for submission

• HR Data Management: Maintaining accurate HR records, databases and employee information

• Absence Management Support: Monitoring absence records, return-to-work documentation and referrals

• Staff Cover Coordination: Arranging daily staff cover and monitoring supply usage

• Employee Lifecycle Administration: Supporting induction, probation reviews, pay progression and offboarding processes

• Administrative Support: Providing HR-related administration, minute taking and support to senior leaders when required


CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS

ESSENTIAL

• Previous experience in an administrative role handling confidential or sensitive information

• Excellent written, verbal and ICT communication skills

• Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise workload effectively

• Proven ability to maintain confidentiality and work in line with data protection requirements

• Experience delivering customer-focused support in a busy environment

• Ability to work independently, using initiative and sound judgement

• GCSE Maths and English or equivalent

DESIRABLE

• Experience with HR administration, recruitment or payroll processes

• Experience working within an education or public sector setting

• Knowledge of safer recruitment practices and safeguarding responsibilities

• Experience supporting meetings, including minute taking

• Familiarity with HR systems, payroll systems or school MIS packages
