Graduate Teaching Assistant
Are you a graduate who wants KS2 school experience while helping pupils make fast, trackable progress?
*** Graduate Teaching Assistant
*** Immediate start until July 2026
*** £81 - £102 per day
*** ‘Good’ primary school, Ward of Yardley
*** Provide 1:1 and small group intervention sessions in KS2
The Role:
The appointed Graduate Teaching Assistant will support KS2 pupils through short, structured intervention blocks in reading, writing, and maths. You will deliver 1:1 and small group sessions linked to classroom learning, so pupils practise the same skills taught in lessons, with tighter focus and higher repetition. You will use clear modelling, guided practice, and rapid checks for understanding to spot misconceptions early and tighten next steps. In reading, you will build fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension through targeted questioning and evidence-based answers. In maths, you will reinforce core number skills and reasoning, breaking tasks into small steps and pushing accuracy. You will record brief outcomes from each session and feed back to the class teacher, so support stays aligned to assessment priorities and groupings change when pupils secure the skill. You will promote calm routines and
consistent expectations, so interventions stay purposeful and pupils stay ready to learn.
The Candidate:
You are a graduate who brings structure, patience, and clarity to every session. You keep pupils focused, explain concepts in simple steps, and use questioning to find gaps fast. You take direction well, act on feedback, and stay consistent with routines so pupils build confidence and independence across the term.
- Degree at 2:2 or above in any subject
- Strong literacy and numeracy, confident supporting KS2 reading, writing, and maths
- Comfortable delivering 1:1 and small group sessions with clear outcomes and tight routines
- Experience with children through tutoring, mentoring, coaching, youth work, or volunteering is desirable
- Professional approach to safeguarding, confidentiality, and behaviour expectations
- Enhanced DBS required, plus right to work checks and standard school vetting
The School:
This Good primary school in the Ward of Yardley sets clear expectations for learning and behaviour and uses targeted support to raise attainment. Staff work as a team to identify gaps, run interventions alongside classroom teaching, and review impact, so your sessions sit inside a clear plan rather than random extra work. The school will provide guidance, resources, and day-to-day direction, so you settle quickly and deliver consistent support from the start.
Apply Now:
Send your CV to be considered. If shortlisted, you will get a call to confirm your experience with children, your availability, and the KS2 intervention focus. We will then complete safeguarding and compliance checks, including Enhanced DBS and referencing, before arranging the next stage with the school. Early applications get priority due to the immediate start.
Due to the number of applications, only successful applicants will be contacted.
