There is an exciting opportunity for a locum consultant to gain 12 months experience in the Allergy Centre at Wythenshawe Hospital, part of Manchester University Hospitals NHS Trust.

The Allergy Centre provides comprehensive allergy care for adults, offering a holistic approach to the diagnosis and management of the full spectrum of allergic disorders. It also has close links with the Paediatrics Service, providing the same range of comprehensive allergy care to children. We perform diagnostic skin,in vitroand challenge tests (to foods, drugs, bee/wasp venoms, latex); offer desensitisation (allergen specific immunotherapy) for bee and wasp venom allergy, inhalant allergy (rhinoconjunctivitis) to allergens such as pollen, mites, cat, etc., and offer desensitisation to drugs (e.g., aspirin); desensitisation to foods is a service currently being developed. The centre has several weekly outpatient clinic sessions, sessions for allergen specific immunotherapy, drug allergy investigation service and day case challenge sessions.

The Allergy Centre at Wythenshawe Hospital is a regional tertiary centre, which is pivotal in driving a regional network across the North West.It is led by Dr Susana Marinho, Consultant Allergist. The Allergy team also comprises of Dr Marina Tsoumani, Consultant Allergist,Dr Iason Thomas, Consultant Allergist, Dr Samia Azmi, Consultant Allergist,Prof. Angela Simpson, Professor of Respiratory Medicine with an interest in Allergy, Dr Hannah Durrington, Academic Respiratory Physician, and two Allergy and Clinical Immunology Specialty Registrars.

The service also has an excellent team of three Allergy Specialist Nurses and five staff nurses, a dedicated Allergy Dietitian and a dedicated Allergy Clinical Psychologist, three health care support workers, a large administrative team and a concierge/caretaker.
