As the organisation continues to grow, they are strengthening their complaints and disciplinary functions to ensure fairness, integrity, and public confidence in their regulatory processes.

Your new role
As Legal Manager, you will provide expert legal and procedural guidance across the organisation's complaints and disciplinary framework. You will act as a key advisor to panels and senior colleagues, ensuring that cases are managed with fairness, consistency, and compliance. This is a central, influential role supporting high‑quality decision making and safeguarding the integrity of the organisation's governance.
Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing legal and procedural advice to Panels and the Complaints Team in line with regulatory frameworks.
  • Advising on matters related to law, evidence, human rights, equality, and the principles of natural justice.
  • Delivering clear procedural advice during hearings and panel meetings.
  • Reviewing complaints and assessing remit and potential breaches of professional standards.
  • Overseeing casework quality, accuracy and compliance with internal policies and external accreditation requirements.
  • Drafting and reviewing determinations, recommendations and legally robust outcome letters.
  • Collaborating with internal and external individuals to support case preparation, including evidence management and witness coordination
  • Line managing members of the Complaints Team.
  • Contributing to continuous improvement, policy development and organisational governance.
  • Delivering legal and regulatory training to panel members and staff.
  • Ensuring compliance with data protection, confidentiality, safeguarding and equality legislation.


What you'll need to succeed

  • Qualification as a Solicitor, Barrister, Advocate or Chartered Legal Executive (FCILEx) in the UK.
  • Proven experience in regulatory, disciplinary, tribunal or court processes, including complaints handling or professional misconduct investigations.
  • Strong leadership and staff management experience.
  • Excellent legal drafting, analytical and written communication skills.
  • A strong understanding of data protection, confidentiality and professional ethics.
  • Knowledge of human rights, equality and safeguarding principles in a regulatory setting.
  • Strong IT literacy, including Microsoft 365.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and constructively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • 3-5+ years PQE desirable, although candidates with less PQE and significant pre‑qualification regulatory experience are welcome.

Desirable:

  • Working with professional regulators (e.g. HCPC, GMC, NMC) or PSA‑accredited registers.
  • Background within psychotherapy, counselling, mental health or wider healthcare settings.
