About the role
- Female Support Worker
- Part time - 22.5 hours per week
- Houghton Regis , Dunstable, LU5
We are recruiting a female Support Worker to join our team supporting one woman in her 60s, who lives independently in her own bungalow and receives 1:1 support to meet all her day-to-day needs. She has mild learning disabilities and moderate autism and communicates using objects of reference and by leading you to what she wants.
She enjoys walks, exploring the local area, going out for meals, clubs, and she loves car rides and watching the world go by from the window. While she does not enjoy busy or crowded spaces, she likes seeing things from a distance. We're working with her to build more structure into her week and explore new hobbies and interests she may enjoy. And most importantly, she loves hot chocolate!
You will support with day-to-day needs including personal care, meal preparation and presenting meals in a way that promotes her independence. Medication administration is also part of the role.
Shift patterns include: 7:30am - 10:00pm, 7:30am - 2:00pm and 2:30pm - 10:00pm. Sleep-ins required - minimum two per week.
Drivers are not essential, though being able to drive and having your own car you are willing to use would be an advantage.
About you
You will be someone who is:
- Patient and responsive.
- Confident working independently during sleep-ins and lone-working shifts.
- Experienced supporting people with learning disabilities, autism, and occasional behaviours of distress.
- Able to adapt communication using objects of reference and observation.
- Keen to help someone build structure, try new social hobbies, and enjoy the world at their own pace.
- Happy to support with personal care, meal preparation, and daily living skills.
Most importantly, you'll have a genuine desire to support someone to live the life they choose.
