About the Role

We are working closely with a welcoming 2-form entry primary school in Smethwick who are seeking a dedicated SEMH Teaching Assistant to join their team on a temporary basis.

This role involves supporting pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, including challenging behaviour and mental health difficulties. You will play a key role in helping pupils regulate emotions, remain engaged in learning, and feel safe and supported within the school environment.

The Ideal Candidate Will:
  • Have previous experience supporting children with SEMH needs, including challenging behaviour

  • Be confident working 1:1 and in small groups

  • Demonstrate a calm, patient, and consistent approach

  • Be available 5 days per week, 8:30am – 4:00pm

  • Work effectively as part of a wider classroom and pastoral team

    Requirements:
    • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to obtain a new DBS through TeacherActive

    • Ability to provide 2 references from recent employers

    • Eligibility to work in the UK

    • Qualifications in Supporting Teaching & Learning (Level 2 or Level 3) are desirable but not essential — experience is key

      Why Apply?
      • Opportunity to make a real difference to pupils who need consistent, empathetic support

      • Support from a dedicated consultant throughout your placement

      • Potential for ongoing work within local primary schools

If you’re passionate about supporting children with SEMH needs and thrive in a rewarding, hands-on role, we’d love to hear from you.

All applicants will be contacted to discuss suitability and then invited to register with TeacherActive.

Registration involves an enhanced DBS check, ID checks and will require you to supply good professional references. We pride ourselves on excellent service. We can provide a wide range of opportunities in schools and other educational institutions, with good rates of pay, at times to suit your needs.

Regular external audits have shown repeatedly that our standards are exceptional. We are passionate about finding the right staff for each environment.

TeacherActive is an equal opportunities employer, and operates as an Employment Business in providing temporary or contract job-seeking services.
