About the role
As a Plant, Equipment & Fleet Project Support Lead, you’ll play a pivotal role in supporting the successful delivery of the Skye Overhead Line (OHL) Project. Embedded within the Power T&D Project Team and working closely with both internal and external stakeholders, you will act as the key interface between the supply chain and project delivery functions.
In this role, you’ll shape and implement a local plant and fleet strategy that supports the project’s operational needs and anticipated increase in activity. You’ll ensure that all plant, equipment and vehicle requirements are sourced, coordinated and delivered efficiently—maximising productivity and ensuring full compliance with Balfour Beatty Asset & Technology Solutions (BB ATS) standards.
This is a project-based position, likely located in Glenmore, with accountability to the Project Delivery Lead and a dotted reporting line to the BB ATS Scotland Head of Operations. You will be fully integrated into the delivery team and seconded full-time to the project.
What you'll be doing
- Developing and delivering a plant, equipment and fleet strategy aligned to project needs, including presenting proposals and implementing agreed plans.
- Managing and holding the hire supply chain accountable for safety, compliance, service levels and adherence to Oyster Rate Card requirements.
- Leading supply chain performance meetings and maintaining strong relationships with suppliers and stakeholders.
- Running plant and equipment resource reviews and building accurate forward forecasts to optimise productivity.
- Overseeing live hire reporting, managing off-hires proactively, and maximising the use of BB ATS-owned assets wherever possible.
- Identifying and enabling innovative and sustainable plant solutions aligned to Balfour Beatty’s Net Zero strategy.
- Producing and maintaining weekly digital reporting via Power BI, using telematics-driven data to support decision-making.
- Managing risks and opportunities relating to plant, equipment and fleet activities in collaboration with the delivery team.
- Understanding relevant contract terms and ensuring compliance across the supply chain.
- Driving a culture of continuous improvement across plant and fleet operations.
Who we're looking for
You will bring strong experience and a proven track record in plant and fleet project management within the construction sector. You’ll be confident engaging with multiple internal and external stakeholders, with excellent communication skills and the ability to influence outcomes across a complex project environment.
Key attributes and experience include:
- Extensive experience managing plant and fleet requirements within large-scale or complex infrastructure projects.
- Strong leadership and relationship‑building skills with internal teams, clients, suppliers and subcontractors.
- Commercial acumen and solid understanding of financial principles relating to hire, utilisation and cost control.
- A proactive, safety‑first mindset with a strong sustainability focus.
- Relevant CSCS card (required) and ideally a relevant technical or professional qualification.
- Ability to think strategically, adapt quickly to change and champion continuous improvement.
- Passion for collaboration, innovation and delivering best‑in‑class service to the project team.
